your evolution as a gamer

True. However, Glassjaw has spent, at most, ~4.5 years playing 3e. I played a weekly B/X game for nearly 11 years without feeling any burnout (with only rare occasions of the others thrown in). I guess what I'm saying is that everybody has their own particular tastes.

It is possible that it is a matter of tastes. It seems equally likely that it is a matter of tolerances. Two people may like exactly the same things in a game, but one may be able to tolerate a steady diet of solely that game for longer than the other.

Add on top of this that we don't know exactly what in his game has grated on Glassjaw. Maybe it's the rules. Maybe it's an aspect of how the plot has always run, or of how the other people play. Maybe it's the fact that he's usually only had a couple other people, maybe it's a combination of these things, or maybe it is something else.

The basic solution remains the same - for a while, change the game you're playing in some way.

Started out playing TMNT, then moved on to AD&D 2nd ed. Played some Heroes and Rifts and Vampire and Werewolf in there. Now I only play 3.5. That's me.

I started out playing AD&D, and then 2nd Edition. I got pretty sick of D&D and then I played alot of other games; TMNT, Rifts, MERP, GURPS, Champions, Shadowrun, Earthdawn, Vampire, and others.

After many many years of refusing to play it, I started to miss all the D&Disms of extreme power growth, high magic, tons of items, and ridiculous monsters. When 3rd Edition came out I started playing- And it was fun again!

Nowadays I prefer playing D20, but I still like to try out all the new games.
