You're missing out on one of the big benefits of being Large, that being natural reach.

Dark creatures are supposed to be infused with energies from the plane of Shadow (they're included in the Shadowcaster chapter). AFAIK, there is no Light counterpart to the Shadow plane.

Plane of Shadow is not the Negative Energy Plane, it's more similar to the Astral Plane.

OT : This gives me an idea* : fusion astral with positive energy planes ; and shadow with negative energy plane. It makes sens IMHO. It would look like the different levels of White Wolf Umbra.

Dragon #321 had an article on the Plane of Radiance, and a number of monsters native to that plane (including the Radiant creature template. +3 LA, so not relevant to the OP).

Radiance is not exactly the opposite of Shadow, however (at least not in the traditional Planescape cosmology). Radiance is the quasi-elemental plane between Fire and Positive. Shadow used to be the intersection between the positive and negative planes, but has now turned into something more akin to "the creepy place" that also serves as a cross-setting transitive plane (if you want to go from Greyhawk to Toril, you go through the Shadow plane. Greyhawk to Elysium, Astral).
