Hide and Move Silently. I don't care what character I'm playing, but I must have some basic stealth skills. I feel naked without them. I believe this derives from my love for Shadowrun, but I just can't comprehend playing a character without them. Sometimes I get confused when other people don't have them either. It's something that comes up too often to just ignore. :)

I like Knowledge (Local).

Some think Knowledge (Local) applies only to a specified area but I don't agree. Neither does the rules as they are written. Knowledge (Local) is great for campaign flavor as the DM can push out information about laws and customs through it. It's also nice to know the difference between a hobgoblin and a gnoll, for instance.

I get game utility out of it. My dwarf has Craft stonecarving. So, he carves stone ornements to give to people we help out and save. It has been a big hit with the NPCs as he is quite talents and getting famous for his adventureing.

While it hasn't happened yet, I plan to eventrually craft my own weapons and armor of high quality. It is fine to have some built by others, but a real dwarf needas to eventually make his own.

I can't wait to hear about the skill check penalties for stone armour! ;)

I like to have either craft and/or profession in my skill list. Profession (sailor) or (merchant) comes in handy when the party needs to travel or trade (or both!). Craft is usally bowyer/fletcher (so I don't have to worry about keeping anought arrows in my quiver) or some sort of artistic venue (woodworking, painting etc).
