Your First magical Item

My first magic item in the game ever was a +1 short sword, perfect for my halfling thief. In the very next game we were captured, and a goblin chief took my sword for himself. Most of the next session involved me tracking him down to get my sword back.

The first really cool magic item he got was a +2 dagger that could do double damage once per day by twisting the hilt. Especially handy during a backstab (that's sneak attack for you youngsters!)

The item that completely transformed him as a character was the Girdle of Frost Giant Strength. What was once a skulking, stealthy thief became a super-agile, super-strong engine of combat destruction.

I don't know if it was the first (there may have been already a ring of protection or some scrolls), but I remember that my wizard got some bracers of brachiation. I can't remember if I used them much, but it was fun trying to figure out what the bracers did and, after identification, seeking for ways to use them!

The first magic item I remember was a +1 bastard sword. It was given to me by one of the other party members and it eventually became a piece of memorabilia. He kept it in his room as his first weapon as a symbol of the friendship that he grew into with the party.

The first ... y'know... good magic item I got ... ;) Well, the first really special magic item, anyway, was a orc double-axe granted to me by the nature goddess Lura.

+1 sword

This was back when the best you could get was +3 and intelligent swords had egos of 12. (If it could talk you knew you were in for nagging.)

+1, but after he got it my fighting man starting booting tush and acquiring nomenclature. :)

A Wand of Fire. It transformed by humble 6th level NG human magic-user into a god. Nothing could whithstand the horrible, withering assault of flame that was at my command. Until, of course, the charges ran out. Things got pretty ugly after that.

That's funny, you deeming that scimitar "lowly" my first magic item in a D&D game was a mace +2 that was an awesome thing! My dwarf went on to kill a dragon with the thing! Granted, it was a baby dragon and he was invised and able to fly thanks to others in the group but it was an excellent weapon!

Hmm...I think the first magic item I got was a Bag of Devouring. We were a little pissed when it ate our gear, but man that bag was useful sometimes.

A +2 icy scythe.

I was playing a 1st level wizard.

The DM was convinced that starting gold was determined by rolling a d20 and multiplying the result by 1000.

That game lasted all of two sessions. But I kept the character. And the scythe.

Demiurge out.

IIRC, my first adventure was Under Illfaern and my dwarven fighter found a battleaxe +2 and a ring of spell storing (slow IIRC) by digging through a mound of goblin poop. I felt sooo clever for having followed my gut instinct to dig through the goblin poop. I don't think the other PCs were suitably impressed with my perseverance though. :heh:
