1. Got the worst job review I've ever had and basically was told that if things don't improve, they'll look for a way to fire me. I despise what I'm doing now, but I have no idea what else I could do that would get me the same amount of money, or more. Feel trapped.

2. Still had some good times with the gaming group, though we're losing another person permanently. I did get to play in a superhero game for part of 2005, which is my favorite genre - so that was good.

3. Got to go visit friends in Virginia twice. Always very enjoyable and recharging.

4. Got to reconnect with some old friends. One who came down from Georgia a few times to GM for us, and another buddy here for the holidays to visit his parents.

had friends and family placed in harms way... which is a good thing. that is what we do for a living. the father of my godson was one of them. he went to La before Katrina hit. he was there thru all of it and came back a better person. (which i didn't think was possible cuz he was a great guy before he went).

my wife was another. she was in Texas.

i volunteered but didn't get called to the relief. was the hardest thing to sit and wait for news. answered phones and continued to do what i do. which is fulfilling but still it was lackluster in comparison to what i could be doing.

invited my mother-in-law to come live with us. she is 83 and her health is starting to be a burden for her. she arrives in the spring.

Overall, 2005 was an average year for me. No really negative situations, and a few great ones.

1) In July, we welcomed our third child into the world. She is a beautiful, healthy little girl, and outside of dealing with the Canadian medical system, it was a wonderful experience.

2) I formed a new gaming group consisting of mostly strangers. This group has turned into a cohesive unit, and I enjoy running a game for them every week.

3) In August I was able to attend my third Gen Con, but first since 1996. It was a blast, and my only real regret is that I didn't get the chance to mingle with more En Worlders.

4) My family did not experience any losses of life, although my grandmother is still battling cancer, and it's not looking great.

5) In January, we were able to take our two (at the time) children to Mazatlan, Mexico for a week. Both kids, my wife and I had a great time, and it reminded me how much fun traveling with the kids can be.

Can't wait to see what 2006 will bring.

Best Year Ever.

Made a lot of money (and owe a lot of taxes...but that's Next Year's Problem)

My wife and I are happier now than in over 10 years of marriage.

I'm thinking of letting her out of the basement.

(Ha! Just kidding. I'm never letting her out of the basement).

2005 was highlighted by a couple of milestones for me:

I attended my 25th High School Reunion, which was a blast, despite lower than hoped-for attendance.

I celebrated 25 years of playing D&D by attending my first GenCon, which was the best time of the year by far for me.

Other than that, no major highs and no lows worth dwelling on at all.

I'm really looking forward to 2006.

1. Birth of our 4th child.

2. Our house addition was finished last week. Added just over 1,200 square feet of needed space!

3. My track team won our 2nd consecutive conference title. We got over 80 boys out for track!

4. My football team made it to the final four this year and was conference champs again this year.

I'm very thankful for our many blessings this year.

2005 for me was much better than the last few without question... but the past two (2003-2004) have been rather rough so this was a welcomed change of pace.

1) After a rough start to the year at work... I've never felt better about my career and my ability to succeed at it. I've been given more responsibility and believe I've really changed the way I'm viewed in so many positive ways. Also I'm really blessed to work with some great people.

2) I was able to spend more time with my 3 1/2 yr old daughter than ever before... And while she lives with her mother about 90 minutes away... I feel things are as healthy as they can be given circumstances.

3) On friends and fun front... things are ok. My gaming group doesn't meet as often or consistently as I would like... I may be forced to supplement my gaming schedule. I also ran into a few friends/contacts that I had lost touch with. And I prolly had two of my favorite vacations/work trips with one being GenCon to work a booth with some long-time friends and the other work trip to Vegas which is never a bad thing :)

Hopefully 2006 will be even better. Happy New Year everyone.

I had a great year.

I was one of 13 people (out of 169 applicants) to be admitted to a fairly prestigious doctoral program in the spring. Two months thereafter, I started exercising regularly for the first time in my life and have continued jogging five days a week every week since April 11th.

Most importantly, I got my first teaching assistantship at which I did very well. For the first time since 1997, I found myself looking forward to going to work every week. In fact, the days I got to interact with my students were the highlights of my week and I can't wait to teach more. Although it doesn't rate TAs, you can find me mentioned in two of the comments in the entry for my supervisor here: http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=387643

So you're apparently like a "weird", "game show host". Hmm...I could see that. ;)
