Pharangase
Monstrous Humanoid (Human/Phoenix)

1000 years ago, a dark wizard sent his young human apprentice, Englazia, along with a group of adventurers to find and slay a Phoenix. He needed the ashes of a slain Phoenix before it has risen to life again. The stalwart group managed to find such a creature and engage it into combat. The group fell one by one till only the mortally wounded beast and the apprentice stood left. Englazia threw herself upon the phoenix, ignoring the burning flames she thrust her dagger into the beast’s heart. With it’s death throes it immolated consuming itself, the girls blood mixed into the ashes of the phoenix, and instead of a new phoenix arising, a cross between the girl and the phoenix rose to new life.

The girl took the name Pharangase which would one day become the name of her new species. Pharangase would eventually give birth to a daughter, also a Pharangase. When she died, from her ashes rose another Pharangase, but from her daughter’s ashes rose a true phoenix.

From this line only, ever Phoenix, upon it’s death has a 25% of arising as a Pharangase and a 75% chance of rising as a Phoenix, with the opposite being true of the Pharangase (25% Phoenix, 75% Pharangase). Every female Pharangase, can give live birth to one live Pharangase in her life time. 85% are female 15% are male. The female can mate with most any race, but will always produce a Pharangase. A male may also mate with any other species, but unless its mate is a female Pharangase, the child will be of the mother’s species, though, it may carry a trait or two of the father’s race, this line will never produce another Pharangase.

Appearance
The Pharangase is large ranging 5’7” to 7’6”, slender yet muscular. Hair ranges in mostly fire colors: red, golds, blondes, oranges, and occasionally blues. On a very rare case, it may have feathers instead of hair. It’s wings are always in fire colors: blues, red, orange. Their eyes are white with flames inside that change in intensity via their mood.

Quick notes -

* When in the racial level sequence do the attribute bonuses arrive? I would suggest that three +2 bonus are too much to accumulate in exchange for one level, particularly in combination with the other goodies.

* Immolation - Both a very interesting ability from a story aspect, and one that needs more description. Is the new creature an ECL1 one if Pharangase? What ECL is a Phoenix? Is this a 1 in 4 chance of your character becoming much more powerful?

* Gaining Heal as a 5th level character might be a bit much, compared to the 11th level character that would be needed to cast it normally. The one per 3 days isn't too much of a limit, as Monte Cook has pointed out in our forums, since the adventurers well may not be pushed to the brink of death any more frequently than that anyway. Consider that the caster level you list is always twice that of the actual class level.

In short, unless I am misunderstanding you level notes the Pharangase needs to either be spread over substantially more levels. Some of the lower celestials in Savage Species might be a good guide. Personally, I'd suggest toning down the powers so that race remains approachable.

Good stuff though!
