Your review of 3.5 after play-testing

What facing rules? What different XP rules?

The new facing rules changed to "Space." Basically everything takes up a square area now.

For example, in 3e, a horse covered a 5 ft. (wide) by 10 ft. (long) area. In 3.5 it now covers a 10 ft. by 10 ft. area.

Is it just me, or did they change Polymorph so that now your magic items still work while polymorphed? Oh wait, I just doublechecked, and they just shifted that clause to alter self, instead of polymorph. A shame.

Then again, it doesn't necessarily say that magic items stop functioning. What do you think?

Well like the ogre taking up all the squares he's in so he's in like four squares or something (and has to squeeze to get into smaller ones losing half movement) and XP now is your individual level not an average party level, divided by the # of players.

My group has now had 3 sessions for a total of 20 hours with 3.5.

The new DR rules are great. Along with the new stuff for knowledge skills, it made them think about time, and tactics.

The new haste is better balanced and still used just as often (i.e. almost ever battle.) The increased movement rates work quite well for spell casters trying to get clear shots for lighting bolts, et. For the melee types being able to move 50 to 70 feet and then attack is still a good thing. It is also simpler to use so their is less confusion about what they have done and still can do.

Our Bard is finally getting high enough to use the new bardic songs and is now trying them out. She loves using linger song feat along so she can have 2 to 3 song effects going at once.

Our halfling likes the new weapon rules. Now she can have any type of weapon she wants and not have to do with a very limited variety.

I've only ran one session, and haven't had any problems for the most part. The new weapon size rules are irritating though. Also, is there anything in the PHB or DMG on buying special material weapons for bypassing all those fancy DRs?

It's in the back of the DMG, in the magic item section.
