I was looking at my wall o RPGs the other day and realized I missed some key books in certain systems. So I’ll be using Amazon to fill some gaps.

RPG spending is mostly PDFs, to save space. I don't feel the need to spend more than I do on RPGs as such: I buy everything that comes out for GURPS, and a scattering of stuff for other systems that looks interesting.

In 2015-16 I designed quite a few custom dice and got them made by the Chessex Custom Shop, but I ran out of easy ideas about the time the UK£ dropped abruptly, so I stopped.

WWII history books to support one campaign, and food for its monthly sessions (I'm slowly writing a cookbook based on the soups I make for them).

The last purchase I made for myself was the new Eberron book. I read it. It's sitting on my shelf. It's been a wake-up call for me as I was staring at my bookcase the other day and it dawned on me that I have more stuff than I will ever need or use. I have things that I've never even read!

My gaming dollar budget for myself since then has be $0. I suspect that it will hover right around there for some time with only very minor purchases such as a drivethrurpg Star Frontiers module for $5 or some such. Especially since I've made the successful switch last week from GM to Player on FG with the very rare Face-to-Face one-off game.

My gaming dollar budget for others may be higher as I enjoy sharing this hobby with others but even then it won't be much anymore as I've gifted out things I've barely touched.

In some ways it's sad. In others, it feels refreshingly like freedom.

Let's say that you are, unlike me, someone with real, bona fide disposable income that you can afford to spend on TTRPG related stuff. Good for you! What do you want to spend it on?
I was going to say that, ever since the local gaming store close, I've only spent my RPG money on PDFs for games that have sounded interesting on podcasts (Shadowrun 6E, Mekton Zeta, and Kaigaku)...

... but then I realized that I haven't actually spent real money on these, since it's all just publisher credit on DriveThruRPG. If I was dealing with actual cash, then I might be more inclined to purchase tangible books.

Being retired, I have both time and income. But I also have a slew of hobbies.

In this arena CRPGs and computer games come first.

I have a weekly TTRPG, but my purchases are few. My game is run solely out of the PHB, so I need no splatbooks. I simply convert a lot of the material I have gathered in the decades I've been gaming. I have a laptop I only use for the TTRPG, and I bought three sets of dice this year, but otherwise, I don't buy much.

Since we use a VTT, I download maps off the Net (or buy Oones), and read reviews of published adventures, which usually give the gist of the adventure, and the gist is all I need to create my own version.

Overall. its a very cheap hobby.

I tend to buy lots of non-D&D stuff, I've got about 700+ RPG books (DMaple's books | LibraryThing) the vast majority are not D&D related. Admittedly I've been collecting for 30+ years so it isn't a huge spend over that period of time.

I still haven't got round to replacing my 5th Ed DMG after gifting my 5th Ed core books to my niece who was starting to play with friends.

I use to buy stuff to collect (for example I have all the James Bond RPG stuff, got the bluck of it keep when a store closed ebayed the rest), and because I was using it (I have loads of stuff from various editions of Shadowrun and Cyberpunk (from when I played in the 80's).

Now I still buy with the intention to use, but also because I like inventive mechanics (Weapons of the Gods) or interesting settings (The Expanse RPG). I don't buy to have a complete set of anything.

My spend on RPG stuff is nominally about $20 per month on average - some months nothing, some months a lot.

Since I am a Savage Worlds person it is 100% PDFs and I never turn down a great Bundle of Holding collection when it comes up.

My main aim here is interesting settings to mine, specific concepts, etc and also the odd thing or two that I never bought due to entry cost but it turns up on Bundle of Holding for $30 for a complete collection.

As for game aids like dice, miniatures, and so forth - I do not go nuts ... I have 2 sets of Game Science (100% fair) dice, and one set of Hastur dice for Strange Aeons (both as an in book 6 player and in book 2 converted to Savage Worlds game master).

Of course since I have been roleplaying since 1981 I have a pretty large collection of dice and other play aids left over from that era.
