1280 x 1024 for my PC
1024 x 768 for my laptop

I still design websites at 800 x 600 because about 15% of my viewership is using that resolution. However, we've FINALLY been able to give up on 640 wide design, as it has finally dropped to being 1-3% of viewers at most.

1024x764.. I just cant get used to the "smaller" look of resoultions above that..even with larger fonts enabled.

That's why I use 800x600. I have no idea how people can see at resolutions above 1024x764.

I mean, at 800x600, icons are about the size of a dime. At higher resolutions they are the size of a peanut (sans shell). How the heck can people tell them apart, much less read the text?

My rule of thumb, if you use standard-size fonts (and you're using normal, 4:3 monitors, not widescreens or odd aspect ratios), is

15" CRT - 800x600 (and unless you're broke, or have an eMac, get a new monitor; 17" CRTs are cheap)
17" CRT - 1024x768
19" CRT - 1152x864 (my home PC is set up like this, though as per above, I'm eying Dell's 20" widescreen LCD)

The 17" LCD I've got at work (and so am using now) has a native resolution of 1280x1024, so text is a little smaller than I'd like with standard-size fonts, but it's not bad enough that it'd be worth switching to large fonts.

I'm at 1280x1024 on my home PC,
1280x768 on my Laptop.

For me, the size of the text is more important than the size of the Icons. On my 18" lcd at 1280x1024 the size of the text is similar to the size of the text in a magazine.

Thus far, my 30 year old eyes have yet to complain. We will see how I feel in about 10 years.

I suspect he's planning on designing a website and wants to know what screen resolution it should be targeted for.
Uh ... huh.

Or maybe he wants to try his homemade "Pokemon" flashing light effects that cause uncontrollable seizure like the incidents in Japan. I'm not falling for that trick.

* types blindly * :]
