Your thoughts on a new defense/damage soak based system?

Recently a friend and I started pitching around some ideas about how to make combat in D&D less of chinking off hp's a few at a time, and more realistic. After some practice battles and some tweaking, we came up with the following system (enclosed in attachment). I wanted to see if I could get some feedback, criticism, or comments based upon what we have here. We're trying to run a more realistic, gritty style of game, but the combat mechanics of D&D don't really support this style. I'd really appreciate some constructive feedback and not just trollish comments. Thanks for your time!

Sounds really great, but I think it needs some work.

- Base number of Wounds on Constitution, and then modify it by size (like the VP/WP system)
- Penalties for having wounds (say, -1 on rolls and checks per wounds, or per 2 wounds)
- Perhaps soak should also go down when taking wound points?
- I think hit point drain spells (i. e. Vampiric Touch) drain far too much under this system. Perhaps they should drain soak and only 1-2 actual wounds?
