doesn't peer mean equals???

i'm confuzzled. how can you be above an equal. wouldn't that make them not your peers???

I'm a 31-year-old college student. I just finished my first BA, in English and linguistics, and am now a graduate student working on a teaching credential.

For the purposes of this discussion, other college students, particularly those nearing completion of a bachelor's degree or graduate students in teaching or language are my peers. Most thirty-year-olds are not. High school students are not. My professors are not. Young-adult college graduates in professional fields are.

I think the poll results show that EN Worlders think they have a larger vocabulary than most other people. I think that would be the common result of a similar poll for the general population. ;)

My vocabulary sucks, so I'm not too unhappy getting 6/10 on that quiz.

see i don't consider you my peer.

at least in the context of this poll. ... vocabulary. i would hope or at least assume you have a better grasp than i in vocabulary.

science backgrounds tend not to emphasize large vocabulary of normal language. however, i can probably meet or beat you on a technical level when talking about my field of study.

so i would say you are not my peer.

when it comes to vocabulary of D&D... and sniffles being upset about EGG's choice of words... well.... i side with Gary. ;)

That's a very good point. It's one of the reason I find Mr. Gygax's writing extremely annoying (sorry, Col. Pladoh). He uses a lot of archaic or obscure vocabulary when common-usage words would make his meaning more clear.

I had absolutely no idea what any of those words meant, but I did get a 5/10! It was easy...since I wanted to know what the words meant and assumed they would tell me after the quiz, I selected "a" for each answer, hit "see your results", and I was told that I was pretty smart (or lucky) for getting 5 correct! I tend to agree with them about me being smart... :D
