Anyone remember the days when Games Workshop used to be the main publisher of RPG books in the UK (after TSR)...?

Cheers,

Well, this is my first attempt at a POLL, let's see how it goes...

I've been spending a lot of $$ on minis lately, and it occured to me that I'm spending significantly more money on minitures than I am on gaming books from WotC (though not necessarily from all d20 publishers).

If minis are outselling the gaming books, I'm wondering what effect this will having on future product decisions by WotC.

What do you all think?

The game shops I visits (two) have almost no minis, only books. One shop even told me that they do not sell enough (almost no) minis to keep them in stock. It seems that minis are not selling well here.

Although we use some miniatures on our combat grid, we don't use them all the time, because we think we can role-play better if we don't use them all the time. And the minis we use are not only WOTC minis, but also Mage Knight, Warhammer, and so on. And only the PCs have 'real' minis. Monsters are always represented by random minis.

Of course, the poll is unscientific, but it's interesting to see (at least, for now) that those who have participated have generally spent more on books than minis.

I'd like to be able to do a 2-part poll, that says, if you have spent more on WotC minis than on Books, do you see that trend continuing? I mean, I'm at the point now where I almost have no need for any more standard PH races. If sets continue to have large amounts of these, I may forgo buying the sets and just pick up the minis I want from the secondary market.

I haven't bought any minis from the random packaged WOTC set. I got some before that, though I like several other sets more.

That said, I hate random minis for roleplaying purposes. This isn't mageknight. If you agree with me, go to wizards website and fill out there survey. I did.

Hrm...This is a toughie. I'd say that I've spent more on minis than I have on books, though there's a specific reason for that. I really havn't bought WoTC minis since Chainmail went caput. So my money's been going to Reaper and Games Workshop. But I do buy predominantly WoTC books. And since all WoTC stores are out of business, I managed to get about 5 books for less than I spent on 16 fully priced reaper/games workshop miniatures.

I haven't bought a single mini, and I don't really intend to, either.
Likewise.

I've toyed with the idea of getting minis, but I really have better things to spend my money on. Besides, using dice allows me to say "goblin #1" and have no ambiguity.

I was going to vote "more on books than minis" because I'm not interested in randomized minis and I do buy some WotC books. But, then I re-read the poll and it said "last 6 months"... and I came to the realization that I haven't bought a WotC book in the past 6 months (the last was Draconomicon on its release date) and I have bought one pack of minis (Archfiends) just to see what they were like (and to see if maybe I would get an FR figure - which I did: the gold dwarf and Cult of the Dragon dude).

However, I have no intention of buying any more minis, and WotC hasn't been meeting my needs in terms of books, so I don't want to skew the poll - I voted "I didn't buy any WotC Minis or RPG books in the last 6 months".

Since I have never bought a mini, from WotC or anyone else, my answer to the poll is obvious.;)

But you know, as time goes by WotC products have become less appealing to me. Dunno why. Most of my gaming dollars are spent on 3rd party material.

I don't buy any WotC minis. I have minis. And counters. (Thaks, FDP!)

I worry about that myself. I feel the changes to facilitate more minis in 3.5 harmed the game.
