I've just gotten in to Wow, and I've been playing CoH for... gods, 10 months. I enjoy both. I do derive a dizzying ammount of satisfaction from 8 man teams going in and wiping out 50 council. The best part of it is that it's not a time sink, like a few others I could mention. I can continue to play casually, without sacraficing the level advancement. And just the sheer versatility of WoW got me into it. CoH caters to the casual gamer, who dosn't have 30 hours a week for their game.

I was just offfereing a suggestion, exactly because CoH is so "light" that you dont have to invest the time in it the EQ required, or WoW requires. Its simple, yes, but thats a big plus fopr some people. I myself wouldnt mind more to it, but I understand that it was developed specifically to be a more fluffy game.

That sounds fishy to me, as does the convenient plot point about why no superheroes have (difficult and time-consuming to program) secret identities.

They were a new developer developing an expensive sort of game and they ran out of pre-launch development money. It's happened before and will happen again. They managed to make a fun game despite that.

It still doesn't turn necessities into virtues, though. ;)

I tend to think that they recognized thier limitations and set to work within them, rather than attempt something they werent sure they could accomplish and make a mess, and I think they succeded admirably. A lot of the success of CoH is BECAUSE it is simpler and doesnt require the deep input of other online games. They recognized thier limitations and went ahead incorporated it into the design goal. I know many people personally from my old Everquest guild that gave up EQ for CoH specifically because it wasnt such a timesink, and they could log on and play for an hour or 2 and leave when they had too without difficulty.

Not important really, I just like to take a more positive view of things :) Id still recommend it to anyone who likes superheroes and doesnt want to have to invest a lot of time to mastering a game. Its failry simplistic, but allows for a lot of depth if you look for it.

Eek, why did you delete your characters?

Good point. I know someone who didn't play for a year and they were able to reactivate thier characters and account.

Both to free up the names and because I know I wouldn't play them again. I'd create new ones if I ever came back. I'm self-aware enough to realize that the negative emotions from my disillusionment would be brought back by their assosciation with the characters in question. Besides, in the six months I played, I created and ran through 55 characters to various levels. I can always make more if I have to. <resits urge to list names out of vain indulgence> :)
