Nope, not shareware any more. It's got a free trial period then it's $29 to buy it. I installed it, and next time I went to use it the trial period was over.

Well, that sucks, I have a license forever I never had to deal with it .

If your archiving needs are pretty basic, Windows XP and later can handle basic zip compression on its own. It's not fast, but it does work.

Total Commander has built-in zip and rar compression and you can plug in additional packers. Sure it's not free, but I have used it for years and the trouble is minimal.

Yeah, I use Zip Genius. It's pretty good, though it's very confusing opening mutliple zips at once (something I need to do a lot because I download a lot of stuff for The Sims 2).

And it's free.

I'll third 7-zip.
It's free, open source, and essentially a WinZip clone so you should find it familiar to use.

7-zip, definately. I hate programs with "assistants" that start up when the comptuer starts. I unzip about 1 thing every 2 days - I don't need some little annoying program sucking up my CPU time and bothering me about something it thinks is important.

I use the built-in functionality with Win XP. It does everything I need and it is integrated into the OS seemlessly.

Prior to WinXP, I used WinZip. It's had the ability to span disks for at least 10 years. I've still got some spanned zips sitting around. Unfortunately, this is one thing XP doesn't do natively.

Winrar is the best of the 'pay' compression utilities, in my opinion. It can uncompress a lot but it can only create .zip and .rar, not .7z

7-zip is excellent and I use it. Free. Can compress/uncompress .7z archives, which are usually 30% smaller than .zip, and it's becoming more popular by the day. It can also compess standard .zip files smaller than other Zip programs, which is kinda neat.
