Zombie Outbreak - where to hide?

Does it have to a building? Does it even have to be in an urban area? Why not pack up a rucksack and head for some remote wilderness location? A log cabin up in the mountains, for instance. A place with fishing and/or hunting possibilities for preference. There could well be a shotgun or some fishing rods in the cabin. There should at least be a good knife, and probably some tinned food too.

Yeah, zombies never attack anyone in a remote cabin. Sure.

Also, the science institute is just plain wrong since that's where the zombies were first created!! (Assuming of course, modern zombie-lore.)

Off planet is about the best you can get. Just hope there are no zombies in the hold....

A mall. It is built to prevent burglras from entering, and they have very little in terms of windows. If it has a parking lot outside and a gun shop inside, you can use the parked cars as exploding traps to kill hordes that approach.

Other than that, The Walking Dead got it right: a prison.

OooooOoo! I forgot! Walmart refuses to carry Maxim Magazine, but it is happy to sell you guns and ammo!

Believe it or not, some people like to hunt, (or target shoot, or defend their homes, family, property and themselves) but don't really like borderline soft-core porn. Go figure.

College dormitory. You'll have all the food you need provided it's connected to a dining hall. There's already plenty of furnishings, entertainment stuff, etc. It should have plenty of security measures as they're typically locked up at night. Here in the midwest ours also have underground tunnels connecting them (serving as storm shelters), so you've got secure escape routes and travel between buildings.

The main problem is that you're reliant on outside utilities, such as power and water. Our local campus has a reactor, but that wouldn't run forever without oversight. So you'd have to bring your own generator, water, and guns.

The upside is that, unlike malls and wal-mart, a dorm isn't the first place anyone will think of, so less competition for space. Except with students, but they should be easy to push around. :p

A decent-sized hospital. Got medical supplies, a cafeteria, probably some guns from the security guards. And if the zombies do get in, lots of stuff that easy for them to catch and eat while you head for Plan B.
