  • "Uh oh! Yer defense contest was a Con. Tha' means ye take 1 damage. But unlike the last time ye took P damage (the type all weapons use), this time ye have armor with 2 protection. That means ye subtract 2 from the damage whenever I cause damage. So do you put -1 in yer P damage?" Trek watches your face for a realization. "That would reduce yer damage to 9, wouldn't it? Then my club would be healin' instead of hurtin'. So when yer defense is a Con, yer opponent always causes at least 1 damage, like this:"

    P 11, +2 (10, 1)

    "Well, now. Ye can't take more damage without dyin', can ye? Since ye 'ave 11 P damage, it's time to RUN AWAY," Trek nearly shouts. "And luckily, it's yer turn. Runnin' away is Physical, like attackin' an' defendin', so roll a P contest."

    You roll a P contest. Your d20 shows 10, and you add your P bonus of 2, for 12 total.
    You roll a P contest for Trek: 10 plus his level bonus of 2, for 12.

    "Hmm. Tha's a Tie. Ye can roll again if ye like. But guess what? Y'are the player, AND the game master. So if ye 'ave a good reason to make that a Pro or Con, ye go right ahead. For now, let's flee back to the closet." Trek leads you out of the junk room.
