"You can give him a celebration hug when we come back after doing the job, Tonk," Tristan says quietly as he takes the papers and slides them under the door. "Farewell, halfling. We will return shortly, when our task is complete," he calls through the door.
OOC
We should probably take a rest before we head out. I'm sure that Tristan's bloodied (13 damage with an unarmed attack, ridiculous!), and it sounds like the rest of us are nearly there. I think it would be better to rest somewhere other than the Temple, though, so we're out of Mr. Un-named Halfling's hair
The papers whip back under the door with astonishing speed. You hear mumbling and the hairs on your arms stand up as magic fills the air. Then the halfling shoves the papers back through the slot again.
"Szere. I have my copy. You have your copy. You have your misszion. You can be onsz your vay."
"Okay. We good to go, but I no clear on one thing. What is mission?"
"The mission is to go and kill Marglespat Applethorpe. We are deputized by the church and thereby legally able to go and kill him in the name of this church. Once we kill him we get a reward of 500 gold peices." Dextyr replies, trying to put it as bluntly as possible.
"I agree that we should rest up and then approach the cottage under the cover of night"
"MARGLE..." The voice pauses, and you hear a loud sigh from behind the door as the halfling realizes what's coming next. He continues in a resigned voice. "Kill. Margleszpat. Yesz, you heard me. MARGLESZPAT. MARGLESZPAT MARGLESZPAT MARGLESZPAT!" Even through the door you can tell he's bracing himself for Tonk's inevitable laughter.
"Okay. Another question: Papa say is crude to kill for money. Is better to kill for to make people think. Yes? So, I think maybe we make person give half of everything he own to temple. Then, we bring him here. He become slave of church for rest of life. Church make more money. Bad person is punish. Church get someone to clean floor forever. Maybe even make him zombie when he die. What you think?"
The halfling's muffled voice rises to a squeak. "Make him SZOMBIE! HERESZY!" You hear the sound of a paper bag inflating and deflating. Finally he continues, firmly. "Vhat ve are making people THSZINK iz that zey cannot cheat ze God of Death! Iz not about MONEY - filthzy sztuff. Iz about JUSZTICE. He vas raiszed from ze dead, he refuszes to pay, so he muszt be returned to ze dead. Szimple.
Now I am going to bed. If he hasz any more qvestionsz, one of you exzplain it!"
You hear a thump and a scraping noise, and recall that you didn't see a bed in the office. Perhaps he's curled up under the desk.

OOC:
I agree. I think Mikara's finger prick actually pushed her over the edge inot the 'bloodied' state (quite literally).
Without hearing any objections to his earlier suggestion Dextyr continues on. "Well OK then, since it seems that no one minds, I'm going to head off and take a nice long nap (OOC - insert extended rest here) and we can meet up at the eastern gate when everyone is ready to go. Any better ideas?"
"Okay! I go find dumpster and sleep there. Papa say, is best way to save money in city. I invite you, but is hard to sleep with other. And I no invite you, pretty elf lady, because no want people to think you tramp, which you is no. And I no do the hanky and the panky before marriage."
Tonk knocks on the door. "Bye bye, little zink-zink man! Thank you for to make me laugh!"
"Bye bye, everybody!"
Tonk leaves and finds the most comfortable (i.e. smelliest and nastiest) dumpster available. He kills all the rats and puts their rat heads on the end of sharpened sticks as a warning to any other rats that might visit. Pulling garbage over himself, he goes to sleep.
"Well then, everyone," Tristan says as he waves once, "I shall meet you at the gate. Rest well." With that he sets out, though not in the direction of the tavern. Where to ... who knows?
"Until tomorrow, I'll close my under leaves and await our quest.
And at the East Gate we begin Applethorpe's hunt in a rested state."
Resisting the temptation to do without her rest and scout ahead, Mikara decides to rest, secluded and sequestered in the forest. She steps outside the city gates, and disapears into the undegrowth beneath boughs and leaves.
The evening breeze clears her head from stray thoughts, and her memory pieces together her plans for the following day

In the morning you awake refreshed and... sore. You feel as if you've been pummeled all over, instead of only with a few sharp jabs. Although you hurt where you were punched, too. If anything, it hurts worse than it did last night.

Now that you think of it, you recall that Lauto frowns on "frivolous" violence (violence not intended to cause death), and you've heard that wounds suffered in His holy places are notoriously slow to heal.

Surprise! Dextyr's gonna have his hands full...
Wounds suffered in the Hanged Man have healed just fine, so by my count, Dextyr is down 12, Tonk is down 10, Blade is down 4, Tristan is down 19 (!) and Mikara is down 10.
Healing powers and items will still work fine, you just don't get the benefit of an extended rest: every morning when you wake up from now until the completion of your mission, you'll regain powers but not hp or healing surges.
Oh, I should mention, the difficulty level for this adventure is "UNFAIR".
As you agreed, you meet again in the morning, worrying over your aching wounds and wondering,
This adventure has a subtitle as well....Can Dextyr keep himself alive.....
OK everyone - lets meet up and I will use my Song of rest power - after a short rest, anyone who has heard the song gains an additional 4 hit points with each healing surge they use.
As well, we should also discuss tactics. Being that we are a) starting low on hit points, and b) limited in the amount of healing surges we can use we need to ensure that we take the least amount of damage as possible. I recomend using guerilla tactics whenever possible, and eliminating enimies as fast as possible, ie - focused attacks. If we can hit em hard and drop em fast it will help. Also depending on terrain we should try and split up any large groups of baddies and try and pick them off one at a time if at all possible.
