Need some help finding a gaming gift

I'm looking for a gift for a friend, but am not sure what to get.

Because we live several hundred miles away I don't know what games he may have purchased this year (for that matter I don't know what may have come out this year in his genre of gaming).

He enjoys table top games such as Settlers of Cataan and Axis & Allies. So, here is what I am looking for:

1) A game that has come out this year (preferably in the last 6 months, so there is a less likelihood that he has it)

2) Is a tabletop game such as Settlers of A&A (as opposed to RPG)

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, I personally have about 5 pounds of dice which have not seen the light of day for months. Were I you, I'd send some of that to him

I can't believe this isn't a thread with four pages and dozens of short games mentioned already...

How about something like the Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation game from Fantasy Flight Games -

Or how about the Guillotine Card Game from Wizards of the Coast -

This fairly new Pirates of the Spanish Main Constructible Strategy Game from WizKids is very popular -

The new Map Folio 3-D from Wizards of the Coast is quite tempting at the $9.95 price point -

I'll post more if I think of them.

Thanks for the responses.

Mark - Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation and Guillotine Card Game look promising. Have you played either? Is there a lot of strategy involved in the LotR game? Guillotine looks like fun, in a similar vain to Munchkin.

Crothian - Have you played A&A D-Day? I thought I heard some bad things about it after it came out, but I may be mistaken.

Jesus_marley - He already has Munchkin so that's out. Any particular choices from Cheap Ass Games you'd like to recommend?

Thanks again.

This appears to be all the rage among a few of my friends right now. I haven't played it but the little ships you assemble sure are cute. And for around 12 bucks or so you can get a half dozen of the little buggers sailing around on your living room floor.

What about a gift certificate to Office Max, Staples, etc. No matter what games someone has, they can alway use pens, pencils, paper, binders, etc.
