Can Dextyr Keep All These Strikers Alive? (DM: JoeNotCharles, Ozymandias79 Judging)

[sblock=OOC]Ken raises a good point. Dextyr doesn't have a power that can heal Tonk with out Tonk having an HS. There is no way Tonk can be revived. It's only a matter of time before he fails three saves. Why belabor that?[/sblock]

Excuse me, Mr. DM! Didn't you say you were going to give us a couple of rounds without lightning, and then, the lightning would use a +4 attack bonus? If so, the lightning MISSED MY BOY! YEAH, BABY!

I said one round - which was last round - and then it would go down to +6 instead of +8.

Ken raises a good point. Dextyr doesn't have a power that can heal Tonk with out Tonk having an HS. There is no way Tonk can be revived. It's only a matter of time before he fails three saves. Why belabor that?

I believe if Dextyr can get through the encounter, either by killing the thing or driving it off, or grabbing his body and running (and actually getting away), then Tonk will recover without needing to spend a surge. So it's still possible (however unlikely) that he'll get through this. Which would mean more XP.

If Dextyr goes down, yeah, I won't make you both roll all your saves until you finally go out - that'll be it. But in the meantime, Tonk might as well keep rolling while Dextyr fights. (I'm not going to hold things up waiting for it - if Dextyr posts and I'm ready to update but Tonk hasn't posted, I'll just roll the saves myself.)

As the rock creature lumbers forward and takes a swing that nearly took off his head, Dextyr drops his wand and pulls out his sword.

"Well it looks like it is just you and me big guy" Dextyr remarks. "Lets see if I can take you down with me you big pile of $&!%".

Dextyr swings out and hits the brute, but his blade barely left a mark. Taking a step he swings again, but this time he falls short of the target.

Well this is it...I'm done for. Best make my father proud, as I'll be joining him soon in the afterlife... Dextyr thinks to himself.

Taking another measured step backward he points forth his arm and presents the beast with an old Imperium offensive finger gesture.

"Bring it on rock-boy, lets see what you've got." Dextyr spits out with as much courage as he can muster.

Lightning flickers once more over the battlefield as the giant rock creature responds to Dextyr's feeble attack. At steps towards him and grips him in two massive, crushing fists, squeezing the breath out of him as it lifts him off the ground. Then if suddenly tosses him aside, into the nearest thicket of trees, where his body lies twisted and mangled. As the life leaves him, his last sight is the creature stomping forward to finish the job.

Tonk sees none of this, but he does see a puff of orange smoke drifting away over the trees and realizes Dextyr must be dead. A moment later the rock giant pushes its way through the trees, but mercifully, he expires before it can reach him.

[sblock=Status]
Dextyr hits for 6, shifts to G5, misses, and shifts to H6. Just do that 20 more times, and it's dead.

The lightning misses: Lightning on Dextyr (1d20+6=12, 1d10+4=13)

The Elemental shifts to G5 and attacks with Bear Hug: Bear Hug on Dextyr (targets Fort) (1d20+8=23, 3d8+5=16) Hit for 16, bloodied and grabbed. He uses a minor action to Hurl Dextyr, which does automatic damage: Hurl Dextyr (automatic damage) (1d6+4=7) Dextyr's at -2, so you're all dying.

So, that's that.

Dextyr wakes in a shadowy room. His body feels numb, and he is weak from exhaustion. He is in a hard, uncomfortable bed, looking up at a vaulted stone ceiling overhead. A kindly looking old man with a stubble of grey and white beard leans over him. The holy symbol of Lauto hangs from his neck.

"Welcome back to the living, my son," he says. "Forgive me if I don't have too many words to soften the shock - I've already made this speech three times and I'm getting a bit tired of it. And I believe your final friend is about to arrive, so I have other duties. Be with you in a moment."

He turns and makes his way to a large glass orb standing in the corner of the room, flanked by two acolytes. Blade, Tristan and Mikara are arrayed on similar beds, ranged between Dextyr and the orb. Inside the orb is a misty scene showing the battlefield from high overhead, centered on Tonk's body. His body is slowly swelling to fill the sphere, until only his face is visible. Then the sphere becomes clouded with orange smoke and Tonk's body appears on the floor in front of it.

The two acolytes pick up the body, with difficulty, and place it on the nearest bed. The old man pulls his holy symbol from his neck and lays it on Tonk's chest. Then he begins sprinkling silver dust from a small pouch over the body, while chanting in a low voice in a strange language.

One of the acolytes returns with a silver bowl of pure water. The other takes a black cloth, dips it in the water, and begins washing Tonk's wounds. As he wipes the blood away, the wounds miraculously close. But Tonk still shows no signs of life.

The priest hands the pouch to an acolyte, kneels, bows his head over the corpse, and cries out in a pleading voice. For several minutes he entreats Lauto for Tonk's life (or so you gather from the tone - the words are still strange). Then he leans forward to touch his lips to Tonks - and stops. He steps back a few paces, takes a deep breath, and returns to hover his face over Tonk's - and stops again. He breath puffs out loudly and he begins coughing, his eyes watering. Finally he waves over the acolyte.

"You do this one."

"Me?" says the acolyte, eyes wide. "But you said it would be years before I can give the gift...!"

The priest shakes his head, still coughing. "Er, normally, yes. But you've seen so much today that I decree your apprenticeship is at an end. Today you are invested as a priest of the first order, and empowered to give the holy kiss of life. Now get to it."

Hesitantly, the newly minted priest approaches Tonk's bed and stares at him in apprehension. The old man suddenly roars, "IT IS A GREAT HONOUR AND A SACRED DUTY!" The young man jumps, plants a quick peck between Tonk's tusks, and backs away swiftly. Too late - Tonk suddenly opens his jaws to take a breath, and the priest flees to the far corner of the room, retching.

"There," says the old man in satisfaction, recovering his holy symbol from Tonk's chest. "Now we're all together again."

Ok, I'm too tired to continue right now. Tomorrow I'll post the final XP and the amount you owe. (Heh heh.)

Guess Dextyr can't keep anyone alive......

A burst of pain and then a soothing coolness are the last things Dextyr remembers before opening his eyes in the shadowy room. It takes a moment for his sight to regain enough to be able to make out the blurry form of the priest hovering over him.

It takes a moment as well for Dextyr to realize the old man is talking to him. His hearing recovers in time to hear that his friends are also here and with that he turns his head enough to see the rest of the room. As he takes in his surroundings the priests complete their ritual and recover Tonks body, and go about returning him to life as well.

Dextyr can't help but let out a small chuckle as the two priests try and decide who gets the honor of delivering "the kiss of life". The small chuckle erupts to full laughter as Tonk awakens to what he must perceive as a most torturous afterlife.

Controlling his laughter Dextyr clears his throat before speaking.
"You have been much too good a person to suffer an afterlife like that" Dextyr calls out to Tonk. "It appears that working for the church has its perks and these priests here were kind enough to retrieve our bodies and return us to the realm of the living."

Dextyr looks around at his team and smiles. "It appears that we now may finally get a chance to rest. I know that I certainly feel like I crawl into bed and sleep for days"

Tonk's first words finally bring a small smile to Tristan's abnormally solemn face. "Hello again, Tonk, Dextyr. I'm glad that I get to say that in person." Moving his gaze to Blade and Mikara, he adds, "To all of you." Apparently done with sentiment, he shifts on his bed, testing to see if his body is back to normal yet.

A thought occurs to the elf, a quizzical expression coming over his face. "Why were those elementals after us, anyway? The rest of the attacks I understand - they were bounty hunters, after the gold on our heads. But elementals? What interest have they in money?"

"Well it will be difficult for anyone to collect the reward without proof. Since these kind priests grabbed our bodies and returned us to life, whoever was controlling that rock elemental will be right out of luck" Dextyr responds to Tristan.

"At least now we are safely hidden away here in the temple, and I doubt any bounty hunters will try and get into here."

Mikara holds up the invoice and the note together, then nods surreptitiously toward the priests, "The faithful may have insured our health, but they might also have sent us a piece of the rock." On the word, "rock," she nods her head toward the glass orb where the elemental stands scratching its head.
