Helioedes template

What about the Welkin template? Does it share a similar relationship to the Vampire template, or is it a further evolution of the as-yet unseen Nosferatu template?

The initial idea for the Welkin template was for it to be a sort of coming together of the flesh (mummy) and blood (vampire) chains.

So you had

Lich < Demilich < Akalich and

Death Knight < Draugr < Cimeriel

as the two sides (arcane and martial) of the 'bone' aspect of undead.

Ghost < Poltergeist < Zeitgeist (or something like that, yes I know what it means)

as the 'spirit' aspect of undead.

Vampire < Nosferatu < Varcolac

for vampires

Mummy < Hunefer < Bogeyman

for mummies

Eventually the spirit & bone would merge into one (can't remember the name of it offhand), as would the flesh and blood (into the Welkin)...then all four would come together as Anti-beings.

So the second in the chain would have been about Demigod level power, the third would have been Intermediate God, the fourth an Elder One (the Welkin etc.) with the fifth about First One or better...Anti-beings are above even Entropy. Basically the ECL of the templates was to roughly double each time.

The Nosferatu and the Varcolac are in the (4E) Vampire Bestiary, however the Varcolac don't really fit that old criteria, however there are new monsters that do. ;)

Of course, the power bracket has changed and instead of a doubling of Level in 4E (as per 3E) you would just add 10 instead.

Correct me if I'm wrong, U_K, but it sounds to me like the 3.5 conversion is going to be fairly difficult. (I still want to help though! :))

Oh, and another question (kind of off-topic) if you don't mind.

Other than Alabaster, have we seen any of the monsters in the VB before or will they be all new? Can't think of any others from the Bestiary that would go in there off the top of my head.

This is no surprise, given what we did in the Cloverfield monster thread. We always knew it would be difficult. But several of us long-timers are willing and able to do it anyway.

I think it should be an easy conversion (per monster), but there are a lot of stat blocks.

I think there are maybe 2-3 out of about (and I'm pulling a number out of my head) 100 that I may have detailed before, although off the top of my head I can't recall...oh, wait a minute, I remember now. There are 3 + 1 if thats a bit cryptic. :p

Well I am happy with 4E but I'll give you guys all the help and encouragement I can muster. I am sure I can give you Hit Dice and ECLs to aim for with all the monsters.

It probably won't be a "direct" conversion; a lot of changes might need to be made, some abilities that work in 4e don't in 3.5 (a lot of the moving-your-opponents/battlefield control ones), and vice versa (death effects and similar stuff).

Is Alabaster definitely in then? If so ... COOL ... he is one of my favorites from the 3.5 Epic Bestiary.

Thanks U_K. That should give us a firm starting point to work off of, which will make things considerably easier.

As an addendum to this, U_K, is there any chance that you'd be able to extend Table 3 down into the sub-epic levels? That'd really be helpful for lower-level conversions, such as the 3.5 version of the bisomus.

Hiya mate! :)

I was under the impression that it operated on a 1:1 basis below Level 21, hence the reason the table doesn't go there. But maybe for simplicity I should extend the table anyway (will help with low level minions if nothing else).

Incidently, been absolutely shattered these past few days (slept through my alarm for 11 1/2 hours yesterday for instance), one of the side effects of night shift is that on occasion your sleeping patterns get messed up - so the VB update to the website will be a day or two late this week. But I should have something up tomorrow. ;)
