OOC: In that case my plan is to move behind the crusher and flank with Ixenvalignat, but I'll wait for Ardens to go in case he wants to throw an area spell behind the swarm and the crusher (hint, hint)

OOC: I probably won't have time to post later in the day, so I'm going to have to take my turn now. So Ardens might have to hit the ones by the boat instead unless the DM is willing to have this action occur after whatever Ardens does.

Finnean reaches into his reserves and with Ixen's encouragement, finds his second wind and then moves to save the dragonborn. Unfortunately, while he escapes from the impaler, both the swarm and the crusher do significant damage to him causing him to fall to the ground, unconscious.

[sblock=Actions]AP: Second Wind (+4 def, +6 hp, -1 surge)
Move: R7 (OA from Impaler 3, Swarm, Crusher 1)[/sblock]

OOC: Invisible Castle seems to be sleeping right now, using the local dice roller.

OOC: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH. The dice rollers are out to get me. 18, 19, 20? Really? The impaler and crusher needed a 20 to hit my AC right now. Unbelievable. This also means Finnean is grabbed and his movement stop in T8, so he is currently sharing a square with Cyrus.

OOC: The crusher just does hit Finnean's AC of 29 with his natural 20, so unfortunately for me, that does do max damage of 12, combined with 8 more from the swarn, that drops Finnean to 0 hp. So I don't even get to finish my turn other than make a death save and a save against ongoing damage. Since Finnean just spent his second wind, unless someone can get a healing potion to him, he's pretty much screwed.

OOC: And there come a pair of sixes. It really does want me dead. Well, I still have ongoing damage and 1 strike against me.

[sblock=Finnean Fairhand]Status: Dying, Ongoing 3 damage.

OOC: EDIT: I just realized how bad this is. The swarm is going to get a free attack against my helpless reflex of 14. If it hits, he could potentially put me close enough to -bloodied that the ongoing damage will kill me at the start of my turn.

Reef(er) Madness – Round 4

[sblock=ooc]For reference:
Reef(er) Madness Round 1 & HERE
Reef(er) Madness Round 2
Reef(er) Madness Round 3 [/sblock]

Now that the tiefling is on his feet and the number of giant crustaceans have dwindled, he felt much more reassured. However the injuries Jesse sustained from the Crusher's blow broke is concentration and his spell failed. The tiefling decided that he needed some space to recuperate, so he slinked away from the heart of the battle.

Cyrus lashes out quickly as the large crustacean attempts to move away from him. Though today is not his day, the stars are not a lined this day. He growls lowly and steps after the beast. Taking another swing at it.

Ixenvalignat struggles for a brief moment before coming to the conclusion that it would be better to fight than to run. Unfortunately, his sword arm, though free, is unable to find enough of an arc to strike the creature effectively, "That's right, you overgrown shrimp, hold on tight, because you won't get another break like that." As if to accentuate that point, Ixenvalignat notices a brief shift in the crusher's grip and takes advantage. Breaking free, he calls back to the others, "Don't worry about me, just kill this blasted lobster!"

Damien notes that Finn taking on the beast head on. "Don't worry little one!" he shouts "I have your back..." And with that completely whiffs on the attack.

Finnean reaches into his reserves and with Ixen's encouragement, finds his second wind and then moves to save the dragonborn. Unfortunately, while he escapes from the impaler, both the swarm and the crusher do significant damage to him causing him to fall to the ground, unconscious.

After seeing the target before him fall, Ardens turns around and casts a spell in an attempt to burn away more of the swarm. After the fire dissipates, the party sees a large number of blackened craud fall out of the swarm.

As the fire bursts up next to the swarm, its amoeba-like body undulates. The back half closest to the flames, while the front half of the swarm splits wide like two writhing tentacles to strike at Cyrus twice and Finnean once.

The craud crusher renews its attack on the now free dragonborn even though it has the unconscious Finnean in its claw.

One craud impaler swipes at Finnean as he ran, before advancing, menacingly towards Ardens. The other skitters to the edge of the coral and launches itself backwards into the water, leaving the coral atoll in search of an easier meal.

[sblock=Enemy Actions]Craud Shrimp Swarm: Aura Attack(s): Aura atk vs. Finnean MISS; Cyrus MISS; Standard: atk vs. Cyrus HIT for 5 damage and Ongoing 3 (save ends)

Craud Impaler 1: dead

Craud Impaler 2: dead

Craud Impaler 3: Standard: atk vs. Ardens HIT; 5 damage

Craud Impaler 4: fled

Craud Crusher 1: Standard: atk vs. Ixenvalignat HIT; 12 damage

Craud Crusher 2: dead

[/sblock]

[sblock=Terrain, Please Read]Coral Atoll (whitish area): firm ground, not difficult terrain; if knocked prone, that PC takes 1d4 damage in addition to any other damage.

Coral Mounds (C7: D8; G10:H12; J10:L11; U7:V8; Y10:Z11; AB10:AC11): considered difficult terrain.

Submerged Coral (light green area): Consider one FULL square adjacent to the Coral Atoll to be underwater and difficult terrain, this also applies to the area between the two coral atolls. Depth ranges from 1 to 2 feet of water.

Deep Water: Beyond one square from the coral atoll is a 20-foot vertical drop to the sea floor.

Swimming:
Swim or Tread: (as part of movement): DC 10 (calm waters) If swimming north or south, every 2 squares of movement towards the coral atoll will slide you 1 square to the east. If swimming to the west, you can only move 1/4 speed. If swimming east, double your swimming movement.

Success: you swim half your speed

Failure (by 4 or less): you can’t swim any further as part of a movement action, but you are treading water
Failure (by 5 or more): you can’t move any further and you sink 1 square.

*NOTE: The sea grass becomes thicker as you move away from the coral atoll. The DC to swim increases by 2 for each square beyond the start of the Deep Water (EX: DC 10 - 1 sq away from the Submerged Coral; DC 12 - 2 sq away, etc).

**NOTE: There is no Athletics check to climb up onto the difficult terrain of the Submerged Coral areas.

Ardens appears unfazed by the tentacles sprouting from the swarm. After all, as long as he stays out of reach, what does he care how many arms a creature has. Seeing an opening as the tentacles busy themselves attacking Finnean and Cyrus, Ardens blasts the creature with another wave of searing flames.

OOC: Good shot Circio! Swarm is dead an impaler fled, but then again Finnean, Ixenvalignat and Cyrus (soon to be after Ongoing damage) are dying as well. :eek:

All hope is NOT lost. Remember there are 3 2 potions of healing (as well as Finn's and Ixen's healing once they're revived and combat is over). ;)

OOC: I have to say that this has been a challenging (and exciting) encounter. Unfortunately, Ixenvaignat has only 4 healing surges left. Healing back up to full will eliminate his surges (a very dangerous proposition). I suggest we attempt to make camp on the atoll (extended rest), if we can :angel:?

Old Ixen should have taken Warlord's Favor instead of Powerful Warning. No?

[sblock=OOC]Cyrus is suppose to be be in T8 where Finnean is currently standing. Just so you know. As Cyrus attacked the Crusher last turn and doesn't have reach.

Cyrus has used his healing potion as well.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]I have a health potion and am in no way close to dying so I can heal either Ix or Finn. Problem is that will use all my actions and I have no action point. So tell me who to heal and they will get my potion this round.[/sblock]
