Summoned Bison

OOC: Scotley can correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I remember Summoning spells working is thusly: 1. Braevil attacked (melee) in round one, 2. He cast the full round summoning spell in round two, 3. The motes sufficiently swirl together to form the bison just as Brae's turn in round three begins and the beast first acts in that round (being the next round) on Brae's initiative count. So, if Braevil wishes to do this then he is all done for the current round. Of course, the Celestial Bison will only actually appear if the full round spell is completed smoothly.

Maidhc O Casain

Na Bith Mo Riocht Tá!
[sblock=OOC]Appears on Brae's turn in the next round. But the beastie is all pinned up (I think), and can't take AoOs at the moment so it should be safe.[/sblock]

Braevil has not yet attacked. He rolled low on initiative, so this is his round 1 action. Casting a summoning spell is a full round action, so the Bison will appear and attack on Brae's initiative count during round 2.

Brae's initiative was low so he didn't act with everyone else at the top of round one. He's due to have the bison appear at the end of round two if as you say the spell goes smoothly.

OOC: Okay gang, I'm trying to get caught up. As soon as I can sort out where we are we'll get moving again. I'll try to have a post up tomorrow (or the next day).

Braevil 2

Braevil backs away from the creature, while chanting and grasping the symbol of Meda around his neck. A haze of silver and gold motes begins to dance in the air near the giant insect, slowly forming into the shape of a powerfully built bison, its hide shimmering in silver and gold.

"Balruk!"
Tau exclaims under his breath. He begins another spell and shoots out a ball of acid at the creature. It sears a nasty burn on the thing's hide.

Raul again unleashes a flurry of blows on the ant-thing, working in his dodging motions as he attacks. The heat of the creature sears his fists even as he damages it. (heat damage (8d6=34))

SoulFetter succumbs to the ant-thing's grapple, though not without a struggle. Once it becomes clear to him that he's well and truly caught, he decides to "go with it." Ligaments and tendons creak with strain, bones crack as they're reformed, muscles grow . . . the Urgant swells to a size that almost matches that of his attacker as he screams with rage and pain. He grasps the ant-monster by the mandibles and gives a mighty wrench, twisting it's neck and throwing it to the ground underneath him! He then lifts the thing's head by the mandibles and slams it down on the rocks beneath. The heat of the creature is painfully hot now. A wordless howl of pain erupts from the giant's throat as he is seared by the scorching heat from the behemoth. Nevertheless, he continues to hold tight for the sake of his comrades!

Seeing Soulfetter's plight, Alarion keeps hacking at the fearsome beast! His blows cut into the beast and hot blood pours on the ground. The blade in his hand glows from the heat of the creature ( DC 18 Fortitude for the weapon to avoid melting).

The creature realizes somewhere in its tiny insectoid brain that it has bitten off more than it can chew. It struggles to free itself from Soulfetter's hold.

OOC: grapple check to break free (1d20+23=27) Opposed check from Soulfetter. All may act.

Raul grits his teeth and utters not a sound as the pain from the heat sinks in. Knowing he cannot survive another round of the direct heat, he draws his kamas and hesitates to see if he can attack with a hand-held weapon without injury. Seeing the knight's sword glowing from the heat, he pleads, "Tell me that using a weapon is safe, because the heat from touching that thing is like using lava as children's clay!"

OOC: Can Raul attack with a melee weapon without injury, or must he retreat? Raul will retreat upon any additional heat injury.
