Was interested in D&D before but the complexity of the rules always scared me.

Decided that I should give it a try half a year ago after watching some Youtube video's of Chris Perkins introducing new people to D&D and then found the funny Acquisitions Inc. video's.

Then I found out that a new edition was coming out so I had to be patient.
Been following everything more intensly since I registered here a few months ago.

I asked my girlfriend and 4 family members to play their first game with me in October.
Can't wait :)

PS: Oh no, it seems I'm currently the only new guy!

Unfotunately stealth does not confer automatic invisibility. You announced yourself. There is no hiding now...Welcome to the hobby! :)

Calling myself a returning player. Stopped playing 4e in 2010, went on to play other rpgs and are planning on coming back with 5e.

I marked Current, but it actually was the playtest that brought me back to D&D after a 10 year hiatus. My group liked Next, but they didn't want to play a game that was constantly changing the rules, so we decided to run a Pathfinder campaign. Everyone eventually grew frustrated with that, so we switched to Labyrinth Lord which is what we've been playing every since. Until, of course, two weeks ago when the Starter Set and Basic PDF came out, and we've switched to that. So while I'm a current player now, 5E deserves the credit for bringing me back to D&D a year ago.

Not sure if it counts as returning, but I stopped playing 4e in 2010 or so. I've played some Pathfinder, but mostly OSR games since then. I'm converting my current Labyrinth Lord game over to 5e now. I haven't added Inspiration in yet; but the other rules seem to be working ok so far (only a couple sessions in using the Basic Rules).

Returning.

Started playing when 2e was out (but played 1e exclusively for 2 years as my best friends brother-in-law only DM'd 1e). Played and DM'd 2e up until around 97. Since then I have played in maybe 4 sessions of 2e, and missed the entire 3, 3.5/Pathfinder, 4e boat.

I'm in the same camp. My game is house-ruled Labyrinth Lord (some LotFP elements).

How much are you using? Are you using all the rules from the Basic Rules?

I'm not using the new XP table, or the Inspiration rule yet. I also haven't adopted the new short term rest healing rules either.

I actually had a house-ruled Dying Rule to roll to stabilize, get a permanent injury, or die if they went under 0 hp, so the only difference now is that they roll 3 times instead of once.

My PCs were very happy to get the ability modifier boosts, the HP increases, and the extra ability/spell each of them got.
