D&D 5E Tales from the Yawning Portal: A better title would be "Nezram's tales of adventure".

There are extra planar portals within undermountain and there is a hint that the propieter has traveled the planes. One of his grandsons have, right on to Greyhawk. In fact the current owner impersonated his grandson for a while.... Or maybe it's the other way round?!?!?

An extra planar mystery involving Greyhawk and the very propieter serving your drinks. Sounds like a great place to me.

interesting, could you elaborate?

Why not just split the difference and rationalize to yourself that Nezram is the one regaling his tales while at the Yawning Portal?

Nezram: "All you adventurers have it easy these days! You think that Undermountain is the ultimate dungeon?! You just kick back have a few brews and hop down a hole in the floor! Back in my day I had Walk between Worlds, Uphill, Both Ways to find a decent Dungeon! There was this one dungeon on a world called Oerth..."

Adventurer: "Earth? I've never heard of it..."

Nezram: "I said Oerth not Earth! Don't distract me or I'll start ranting about the Imaskari abducting Egyptians and Babylonians through Portals..."

Adventurer: "What the heck is a Baby Loon?"

Nezram: "Oh, to the Nine-Hells with it! I'm tired of this nonsense, I'm going up to room to go to sleep..."

Adventurer: "Phew, any more wizard ramblings and I was going to fall asleep in my Mead-Mug... Maybe that's why they call this place the Yawning Portal..."

The very next morning...

Nezram: "Oh, good you adventurers are still here! When I got up to my room I was so aggravated I decided I'd rather sleep when I'm dead, and seriously considered turning you into a toad. But, you're in luck, I'm a very forgiving wizard, and since your ears don't work so well, I wrote the dungeons all down in a book for you entitled Nezram's Tales of Adventure."

Adventurer: "Huh? Who the heck is Nezram?!"

Nezram: "I AM!!! Oh, why did I ever come back to Toril? Nevermind, I'll call the book Tales from the Yawning Portal."

Adventurer: "Wow! That's a great title. I think I've heard of a tavern called the Yawning Portal. Weird..."

Nezram: *sigh* "Why do I even try? You're sitting in the Yawning Portal right now!! Just read the book so you can know what a REAL adventure is..."

Adventurer: "Ummm, my dad always told me the Sword is mightier than the Pen, so... I don't know how to read. Maybe you could just tell me the story over a few brews?"

Nezram: *shakes his head* "The adage is that the Pen is mightier than the Sword!!! ARGH!!! Maybe the people of Earth will appreciate this book." *ZAP*

Adventurer: "RIBBIT...RIBBIT..."

But naming a book after something that has established lore for a long time and not really sticking to that lore is not a great way to sell it to existing fans either.
The only existing fan who cares about the title of this book is you, and you're going to buy it anyway so WotC has little reason to worry about what you think of the title.

A better title for this forum would be "Corpsetaker's gallery of disappointments"

Perhaps Corpsetaker is a devote observer of Festivus, and he's just engaging in a rousing Airing of the Grievances? If so, I await his Feats of Strength next :)

Yawning Portal, which will be in the movie, makes more sense for branding, and makes perfect sense as is to be a multiworld crossroads. Nobody has heard of this wizard, and it doesn't really seem that eye catching for a frame story.
I hadn't heard of the yawning portal, I thought they were using it as something different from the well of worlds. It wasn't until reading these forums after the announcement that I found out that it was apparently an inn or tavern. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people hadn't heard of it before.

I heard of Nezram during 3e, it could be interesting if he was telling the tales but I wouldn't be surprised if few people knew who he was.

Because movie tie-in, really; more canonically, because PCs are more likely to be there, and the stories will get thru from Skullport.

Speculation is that the AL season will be Undermountain focused; so these dungeons are sidelined to that.
Is there something definitive that I've missed that says the Yawning Portal will be in the D&D movie they're working on? To be honest, I'm pretty disappointed because I've seen almost Nothing about the movie to date; the less said the closer a movie gets to release, the more of a pure money-siphoning bomb it is likely to be, in conventional Hollywood wisdom. Which disappoints because I've seen Lord of the Rings and the various Marvel movies and Star Wars movies; fantasy is ****ING HUGE and has been for over 15 years now, and there's no excuse that a good, moderately-budgeted Fantasy D&D movie cannot be made in this day and age.

Still in pre-production, sure once it goes into full swing with publicity we will get tired of it, and it won't be moderately budgeted but an over the top WB extravaganza (for good or I'll): but, yes, the screenwriter has specifically stated that the Yawning Portal is central to the film, and will be the major set-piece. So, big media plans for the Yawning Portal = this book is unsurprising.
