D&D General Can we get a D&D Tactics game please?

My wife got me into finally playing a Fire Emblem game by saying "it's how I've been getting my D&D fix since we can't seem to get a group together". So I started playing it. Then I was stuck home sick for a week and ended up putting like 90 hours into it.

So, wow, who would like a D&D tactics came now?

Such games have been around since at least 1993.

Shining Force 1&2 were such games.

They've never been that popular, fire emblem almost died as a franchise iirc.

On the plus side they should be cheaper to make since they don't need the best graphics and can be a lot if fun.

Fun D&D games are a big ask these days though the last good ones were 15 years ago?

Even if they started tomorrow it wouldn't be ready until 2023.

You could do a retro style one with a very small team and make it cheap assuming you don't mind 16 or 32 bit graphics.

Kickstarter Pathfinder would be your best bet with retro graphics or Kickstarter numbers filed off generic.

Personally I think this is the way a new D&D game could go it would be cheap to make. Make a good game no point churning out bad 3D graphics and have the game bomb.

Fire Emblem level of graphics would still be several million dollars.

The message I got from others who were really into tactics was that 4e was kind only good at it in comparison to other D&D versions which were not at all (ie 4e is dabblers tactics). So the request might well be for something more? Ok I will admit dabblers tactics may be enough for me but I might want to try more.

The prequel series for The Dark Crystal, Age of Resistance, is getting a Tactics game this year. Is that not good enough for you? ;)

Was it Three Houses? That game is amazing.

The best tactics D&D video game I played was the one for the PSP. But I think that was based on 3e rules.

Yes, D&D Tactics was a PSP game based on the 3rd edition (actually, I think it was 3.5e) rules.

It's sort of a cult PSP classic these days, but I'm not sure the sales were all that great originally.
