Everybody wants a multiverse these days, but with Doctor Who it makes a lot of sense (for certain definitions of "sense"!)

It would seem you could do Dr. Who movies like the MCU for sure. Plenty of villains and the Dr can change (or be like in the last spiderman).

Unfortunately, we haven't seen any of the Whitaker Who yet. Someday I'll buy them and watch them.

Casting Hugh Grant is one of the very few ways they can cast a white man in the role, I feel, and not get insurmountable blowback. Not that they should, but Grant (or letting Tennant return to the part, another rumour) gives the BBC a conservative-safe casting with a reliable and bankable star that the new base will mostly accept.

I was actually expecting the next Doctor to be a much younger white guy. No good reason for it, just internal speculation (I expect they'll do a person of color before too long but probably wouldn't do that immediately after the first female Doctor, the recent doctors have all been on the older side, the fanbase of NuWho could benefit from an age drop, etc).

I mainly know Hugh Grant from his work in the 90s - both on camera and some of his unexpected presence in the news. Looking at his Wikipedia, the News of World stuff feels like it was a lot longer ago than 2011. I'll reserve my judgement for him as a Doctor until after I see how he does in the D&D movie.
