DMsGuild counts for trademark, they have successfully defended Star Fromtiers twice now based on thst counting as being in publication legally. It's been since 2010. How long before they lose the trademark? As I understand it (which could be wrong) you have to actively upkeep a trademark. It doesn't have the same life+ protection as copyright. Or is it considered actively kept up so long as they sell legacy GW content?
Which is fine. I'm not actually advocating anyone camp GW. I just wish they'd make it. (And hire me.)DMsGuild counts for trademark, they have successfully defended Star Fromtiers twice now based on thst counting as being in publication legally.
I hear ya. Just interesting to note the three non-D&D games they actively sell on the Guild and keep in trademark: Boot Hill, Gamma World and Star Fromtiers.Which is fine. I'm not actually advocating anyone camp GW. I just wish they'd make it. (And hire me.)
Is it? Look, I'm not going to besmirch the game as I've got a lot of fun memories playing it, remind me tell you about Fumbles the mutant scorpion sometime, but I don't know how much it really resonates with the young, hip kids these days. How about Star Frontiers while we're at it?It's super-weird that we haven't seen Gamma World in the 5E era.
That has potential. Thinking in terms of PbtA rules, Bonds could be valuable for characters that co-operate, but you might want to add an opposite ("Binds"?) for enemies that always show up.Toon. I think in today's RPG market, where people are used to games other than power fantasies, it could really be a big hit, especially with more modern light mechanics.

Jayson Elliott's TSR(2) (now Solarian) got Merle Rasmussen to design a whole new version of Top Secret a few years ago, right?Maybe I missed the reference earlier, but what happened to Top Secret?
Boot Hill was fine. But to me, the holy trinity of non-licensed TSR games* (other than D&D) was always Star Frontiers (with Knight Hawk Expansion), Gamma World, and Top Secret.
AFAIK, only Gamma World received further love. SF and TS remained forever stuck with their '80s versions.
