    Healing Potions seem woeful

I suspect that for standard level encounters, 4e will be about as lethal as 3e, which is to say, not very. However, I think the way lethality manifests itself is going to be different. In 3e, once you got beyond the die in one hit levels, the most likely way to die against an equal level...

    Healing Potions seem woeful

Well, in previous editions, instead of the player's resting for six hours and ending up like new the cleric rested for the night and then made the players like new. Unless you wanted to play a game without interventionist deities, or a low magic campaign, or just a campaign where no one wanted...

    Healing Potions seem woeful

What do you mean now? It's always been this way. There's a whole paragraph in the 1e DMG where Gary Gygax explains that of course it's ridiculous that a fighter could take all these sword thrusts and how hit points represent more than the physical ability to endure punishment. I don't know...

    Healing Potions seem woeful

"Oh that battle was rough, if someone does a cleave in my general vicinity there's no way I'm going to be able to duck in time." 5 minutes later... "OK, I've got my breath back. Lets open that next door!" Repeat. Repeat. "Another tough battle, that orc power attacked me 5 times, I don't...

    Warforged: MM vs Dragon Magazine

Yup. If one free save is good, two is better. The interesting thing here is that instead of giving the Warforged a bunch of immunities like they had in third, they've essentially modeled the same thing using these extra saves without making the warforged absolutely immune to any combat effects...

    They Killed Alignment

Didn't DDM just kill alignments too?

    Warforged: MM vs Dragon Magazine

When you take a feat that gives you a racial power it replaces a class power, just like a multiclass feat (for the Warforged at least, I assume it will work the same way for other races)

    D&D 4E 4E's math-- what am I missing?

It seems like you've left out the AC bonus from improved materials.

    Warforged: MM vs Dragon Magazine

It seems to me that races can diverge quite substantially from the baseline, they just have to do it through racial feats and powers rather than default abilities. They've essentially decided that if you want to play a more powerful race, you're going to have to spend feats or give something...

    Warforged: MM vs Dragon Magazine

Check out the picture on page 28. Looks like that could be leather armor to me (could be cloth too).

    Warforged: MM vs Dragon Magazine

Well, they explain why the decided natural armor was a bad idea on page 32.

    D&D Insider! UP ! (merged)

There's always Parallels or Boot Camp.

    Healing Potions seem woeful

I've actually been working on a house rule for a layer of meat damage that goes between hit points and unconsciousness. Should work really well if you want a really gritty game.
