The VOIDRUNNER'S CODEX is coming! Explore new worlds, fight oppressive empires, fend off fearsome aliens, and wield deadly psionics with this comprehensive boxed set expansion for 5E and A5E!
Very awkward.
I think for combat shapechanging that you are better off creating a shapechanger pseudo-class. You then multi-class into shapechanger and get a distinct shape as a level-appropriate encounter power.
Shapechanging also works as a ritual, although such uses should be more utility...
Some things port back easily.
Gamist Attitude? Yes.
Skill challenges? Yes.
Parcels? Yes.
Minions? Yes.
Encounter Roles for Monsters? Yes.
Magic Item Levels? Already in the MIC
Others things don't port so well. XP Budgets for Multiple creatures don't work as well in 3.5 as in 4.0. The math is...
The parcel system is INVALUABLE to adventure designers. In previous edition, we had all kinds of strange swings to what treasure was awarded at which levels. Now, we actually have guidelines so that adventure level 4 over here won't break adventure level 5 over there.
When I write for Dungeon...
I've been writing over on the www.dandwiki.com for a while. I am now sad. We've been working hard to be a great D&D resource and this changes the landscape for us.
You folks do need to get your speed up. The wiki response time is awful.
Here are some of our lessons learned. I pass these on to...
I'll try a few Black Company guys for kicks:
Croaker, The Captain - Warlord
Raven - Rogue multiclassed with Wizard/Ritual Casting
One-Eye, Goblin - Wizards
Darling - No equivalent
Lady - Epic Wizard
Ten Who Were Taken - Epic Wizard
Shapeshifter - No Equivalent
I must say, Heroic tier 4e now...
I look at it this way: there is opportunity, and there is payoff.
Let's say that I have a Strength power that lets me shift 1+[Int mod] opponents.
If I take a 5% chance less to hit (I choose Str 16), I can increase the payoff of the power 25-33% (by choosing a higher Int). Is that worth it...
What I have not yet seen is this:
Twin Strike - Nearby
Careful Shot - Anyway within bow range
That is a HUGE difference. Careful shot can be effective across effects, across rough terrain, across OA's, and behind meatshields.
Unless I'm missing a basic fact, of course. This is all still new.
I played multiple characters on a few occasions. It is harder, but can be done. It taught me a great deal about how the classes interact.
You really, really, really need to stack those bonuses!!!
Alot happened for me when I finally understood the 3.X process. In 3rd, the monster design process never worked as it claimed.
1. Design your monster.
2. Compare it to other monsters.
3. Fudge abilities and bonuses until the monster works
4. Call it done.
Step 3 made all other steps...
I see the low selling price as being part of the character balancing act.
Players are smart. They will sell a less useful item to get an item that synergizes well with their character. A well synergized character can easily perform well above level. Therefore, you must charge an appropriate...
I'm trying to remember Sharpe's Company.
"The difference between you and them is that you fire two shots a minute, and they fire three."
I'd put the rifle down as a military weapon.
