    1st Edition Collector's Guide

Missing Minifigs D&D line of figures. The sculpts matched exactly the drawings from the Monster Manual for the Orcs, Gnolls, Kobolds and Hobgoblins. Near perfect copies! I loved those minis back in the day.... http://www.dndlead.com/minifigs/Kobolds.htm

Novels with extensive D&D-style ruin/dungeon exploration?

Deed of Paksannarian Book 2 is basically T1 converted to a novel. The NPCs are there, moathouse with bandits, and evil cleric of Lloth in the dungeons below masterminding it. The series is good with lots of D&D like exploration, including an adventure to find a lost tomb, and Paks imprisonment...

Will trying to maintain legacy and the "feel" of D&D hurt innovation?

I spent $1000s on 1E and 2E back in the day. I spent $1000s on 3E and 3.5E when they came out. I was excited about 4E hoping it was a cleaned up version of 3.5E. When I saw it wasn't, I didn't buy a thing. I havnt, and won't spend 1 penny on 4E. Maybe that's why they want to appeal to us...

Of all the complaints about 3.x systems... do you people actually allow this stuff ?

Good Idea! So good in fact this was the actual written rule in the 1E DMG. Although its written such that it's open for interpretation. Many people played 0E or Basic spells per day despite this rule in the DMG.

New Legends and Lore:Head of the Class

You missed the point. I'll rephrase it using living creatures. I will use a stand in creature to represent the giant. I could take an axe and kill an elephant* (that's the stand in creature for the giant) but I could not push it over. Here is another comparison: a small child, say around 8...

New Legends and Lore:Head of the Class

All good discussions here but thought I'd mention that I could chop a tree down with a hand axe, but I could never push it over. An axe does not use the same laws of physics as the weight of a dwarf vs weight of a giant.

new to ad&d, need help with understanding stat scores

In 1E Rangers and Paladins could have % str scores. There are several examples in modules and the rogues gallery showing this although the PHB is not that clear on the matter. I don't know 2E so not sure if they changed it

D&D 3E/3.5 Can anyone suggest a D&D 3/3.5 'tutorial adventure' to run newbie players through?

The Sunless Citadel is a good starting module. Monsters to negotiate with, traps, hidden areas, memorable characters, etc I think it has 3.0 stats but very easy to update. Edit: doh didn't read the end of your post. I still recall it being newbie friendly though. Maybe I should get it out...

What adventure module defines D&D to you?

The modules that defined D&D to me from an early age were: Halls of Tizun Thane - in an early White Dwarf The Lichway - also in an early White Dwarf and Tegal Manor - Judges Guild I still love those modules, but have come to appreciate the basic layout but extensive depth of the G and D...

    alternate 3E dual-classing idea...

Sorry about that, if a mod wants/needs to move it? All good ideas above, Ill respond later at lunch time :)

    alternate 3E dual-classing idea...

I had not seen that before. But it appears overly powerful. 2 classes at each level is not what I'm thinking. Each class would have to earn the xp to level up, and xp would be divided like original multi-class characters between the 2, so that although the class is stronger, it levels up much...

    alternate 3E dual-classing idea...

Has anyone put forward any rules/ideas on a 1E version of dual-classing but for 3E? i.e. Fighter/Magic-User starts at levels 1/1, splitting xp between the classes and each class needing level 2 xp before they hit 2/2. HPs would be 1/2 of the two HDs rolled at the same time (i.e. 1d10 + 1d4/2)...

Love it or hate it, 3e style

I really like 3E when it first came out. It got me playing RPGs again - something I had stopped doing in the early 90s when 2E came out (not that 2E made me stop - girls and clubs did that). After playing 3E for awhile, I started missing 1E, so started playing that as well. I wanted a simpler...

How close to the RAW did/do you play AD&D1?

Its funny, but I dont actually remember how we played back in the day. I dont remember how we did initiative or surprise. I remember reading the helmet rule. We didn't use weapon vs armor type. So I put 80% or so but its a hard call.
