    Dice Superstition

'course I forgot. I also have a full set of those crappy low impact die sets that came with some of the original TSR boxed sets. You know which ones I mean. The yellow four sider. The orange six. The green eight. The blue twelve. The one red and one white twenty siders, which now are so worn...

    Dice Superstition

I have plenty of stories about dice. A few even had the players scared. One was a green gem that would crit more often then it would miss. One night, one of the players decided that enough was enough and had removed the die from the bag before the game started and chucked it out onto the yard...

    Mass Effect?

Yea. Come on. Really. $20 bucks worth of plywood and duct tape would have had those torps exploding on the surface and the Rebels would be looking for another rental

    I'm sick of...

I never really cared much about the new editions. I stopped after 2nd and given the wealth of information aqvailable for that mechanic alone (plus anything that couldn't get out of the way fast enough to not be assimilated), I never saw just how bad things had gotten. Part of the reason for...

Dealing with logical but gamebreaking requests

Who moves the world? You're seeing yourself as a referee arbiting the PCs efforts, not as an entertainer or storyteller nor as a gamist game-master providing in-game tactical challenges. Not that I mind, I just thought I'd point it out. It seems you think this is the "only" or "natural" way to...

Dealing with logical but gamebreaking requests

Actually, I have worked this one to both extremes. 1) Too much footwork. The party spent days of play time asking questions, gathering supplies, and generally making a pain of themselves. Took them about three weeks until the expedition was ready. Doing the research was good. But to say we...

D&d pc roles: From past to present to future

Utili-mage One role that has been missed here is the ‘toolbox’. The toolbox usually has one or two offensive spells but shines when the party REALLY needs something Consider the low level 2nd ed wizard and think of the possibilities of replacing the thief (agreed this is only for well...

Your best Villain (or Nemesis) in Campaign Adventures

Twy again. This time, wit feewing.. In the Battletech/Mechwarrior game, I had an enemy ace who evolved into a real nemesis. Slowly the actions of this ace came to the attention of the players, who then went off trying to prove themselves the ‘fastest gun’. Unfortunately, they fell for the...

Who is your favorite cover artist currently working?

Larry Elmore. Working or not, his work is fantastic and easily recognisable.

Has anyone made good bar fight encounters?

Why not? The villian may need some breathing room and this is a great way to slow down the party. If they spend the night in the pokie, the bad guy has that much more of a head-start on his plan. The villian may be out to trash the PCs reputation (picking on the little people) and plant a...

Do You Ever Give Characters Magic Items?

One of the things I picked up from Mask of the Red Death is to make each magic item unique. Given the difficulties of making a permanent magic item, you won’t see factories cranking out a hundred +1 swords a year. So, each item was probably created for one purpose or person in mind and should...

    100 Iconic Fantasy Magic Items

The Vorpal sword (Snicker-snack!) The Crystal skull (the Aztec one. Not the latest Indy Jones thing.) TheHorn of Roland. A Berserkers’ horn. (I know, this was mentioned earlier, but I really like them…) The sword of Roland (Durandal). The bow of Odysseus The Armor of Achilles Excalibur!

    Party member down!

I forgot to mention the local Druid. Reincarnation is a great alternative to direct raising. The character can then 'hang out' with the party until a polymorph can be used. You will never know how useful a raccoon thief is until you've been one.

    Party member down!

I suppose the Dues ex isn't the answer your looking for... Nor is the 'obscure death rule'. Switched by a doppelganger? I think the best course is to keep the corpse on ice until he can be raised. This may be a while for the party to get to this point; investigate alternatives. Plead your...

    Becoming a Grognard

Preferably, printed versions. (Red Box, #2001, 2nd ed, etal.) Oh, the horror. Home brewed D&D. "...A Jedi is sort of a psionisist and a Paladin dual classer..."
