It would have fared much better if they had rewritten it just before publication so that it was compatible with itself... like if, oh, I don't know, the sample epic spells actually followed the rules for epic spells. And, yes, Union was awesome. If I had a choice, I'd live there instead of Sigil.

I beg to differ. There's a metric ton of text in every MMO, but very little reading. For instance, in WoW, the quest text was blindingly obvious in stating what had to be done and where in 90% or more of the quests, but people were constantly asking in chat channels (*shudders at Barrens chat*)...

Again, that didn't stop TSR (hence the devlopment of such lovely names as "T$R" and "They Sue Regularly," and I can't name a single soul that's a fan of Lorraine Williams). Never underestimate the potential idiocy of any company's legal department, marketing department, or upper management...

So far on a cursory glance, I'm just seeing a mention in the DMG that "you can continue your campaign indefinitely with level 30 characters" and "but your campaign must end eventually." It seems to imply that 30's a hard cap and you need to retire, but I'm not sure if that counts as a hard core...

That didn't stop TSR. However, I'd like to hope that history doesn't repeat itself.
