    layoffs?

I don't know the real reason and don't care: this whole thing blows. Just like it blew when the layoffs hit around 3e's release. I can accept that it's true that many buyers don't know who these people are. But I do, and I fully expect I'll miss their presence in future products. RPG games are...

Would anyone prefer spellcasting to stay as it is?

Kahuna is almost saying what I'm saying. We're used to Vancian methods because it's what we learned. It's not any more 'realistic' to me than knowing all spells all the time. (which is probably not balanced, but how is a day more explainable than 5 minutes or an hour?) One house rule some guys...

Would anyone prefer spellcasting to stay as it is?

Vancian (daily) magic has to go. Maybe not completely, but I think there are a many things they can do to improve it. Playing a wizard is fun when you wield magical might. Saving your spells for the right time, or not having any left to use, is not fun. Get that cow out here and let's have 'er...

Design & Development: Likes (not Dislikes)

I gotta throw props to Jesse and this column. It is actually quite clever and very useful to DM's, even if they don't have design ambitions. I agree that it's nice to see someone, even from the big, evil WOTC, take a stand on positive and negative sides. Refreshing.

Iron Heroes General Discussion: why do you like or dislike Iron Heroes?

It's great fun. I'd say if you're the type of player who really enjoys the epic battles that occur in D&D, then you're going to love IH. It's up front about individual heroism, without sacrificing any other elements. Some have said the mechanics are restrictive to fantasy gaming; I disagree. In...

TSR Example from the worst TSR adventure module(s) ever published

So I had to go look for myself. Read the review..http://www.rpg.net/news+reviews/reviews/rev_6157.html I'd never heard of this product. Now I have.

    Best Quotes of GenCon

It certainly was a generous thing to do, Sean. I worry about folks who paid $3 having a good time when I DM, but $100? Who knows what lengths gamers will go to, huh? OTOH, I'd say that's quite an honor! And a rare treat for a gamer to sit at the table with someone whose work you admire. One of...

    Record Your Ptolus Pre-Orders Here!

It's called "World of Warcraft". A year just flies by then.

    Record Your Ptolus Pre-Orders Here!

Preordered 8/25. I've moved my desk to the front porch so I can see the delivery guy as soon as he arrives. Shouldn't be long now!

My AE & Lords of Madness campaign...

When I started my AU game, I was meticulous about converting all classes to AU ones. But for most fodder NPC's (or ones that are 99% roleplay), there's really no need, so I quit doing it. Not once did my players say, "He's a rogue!", they just assumed unfettered or akashic, and I never corrected...

My AE & Lords of Madness campaign...

There are several good ideas in there, Eric. I also use the 'Justice League' style in my AE game, although only 2 players have exercised it to date (we're in year 2). I also have LoM, and it's such a cool book I'm wondering how to get more of it into my AE campaign. But no beholders? None? How...

An open "Thank you" to Erik Mona

me too. I've been a subscriber to Dungeon since issue...31 or something. Dragon since 88 or so. I say that they've both had good and bad runs, but right now I'm more impressed and happy with them than I've been in a while. I think Erik and his staff turn out GREAT products. Keep up the good...

    Humbling defeats

Dracomeander beat me to it. That same room, and IIRC, the table specifically, rode roughshod over our party like a fearsome dragon. We lost the gnome rogue, dwarf paladin, and a ranger or two before the DM called mercy on us. Complete humbling. It was then I realized, so early in the life of...

    DUNGEON's NEW STAT BLOCK FORMAT

First, I like the new format. I'm really interested to see where this goes. I DM 80% of the time, and have done so for a long while, so I'm no slouch when it comes to quick rulings or book references. But I admit that in my last few sessions I've noticed I spend a lot of time looking for info...

    Registration Experience (Good or bad?)

Me too. Crappy every year since the first. Amazing that they can pretend to prepare each May for this surge in demand and then have the system tank anyway.
