Skills - Getting rid of Key Abilities

I can't say I made this up, I got this idea from a post over at RPGnet. But the idea is to get rid of key abilities for skills, and make it so the ability bonus changes according to what activity you're doing. Let me give an example: Say you got Heal. If you want to diagnose an illness, you use...

    D20 vs 2D10

That's only half true. In the case of skill vs. DC, then yes, the closest you get is 55/45. But in a contested roll between two characters with equal modifiers, then the outcome is 50/50. I personally like the idea of 2d10 (I heard of that house rule before this thread), and as soon as my...

    Rolling HP Variant

My group has always just used the min=1/2 die rule. But if we're just posting ideas, something someone else suggested was that you just automatically give players max HP at 1st level. Over time things will balance out, but it gives a bit of a boost for the first couple levels.

Why NOT to use damage resistance for armor...

Posted by jaldaen "I wish WotC had gone a different route with armor in D&D... such as a mixture of the AC and DR concepts for armor... " A few people have mentioned mixing AC and DR for armor. But my thought is that that is uneccessary, either go with all AC or all DR. If the thought is...
