A question for those of you who have used Mongoose Publishing's Book of Immortals...

In one section of the book it states that immortals on the way through apotheosis cannot gain skill points. Then immediately under this the book states that immortals can gain skill points as they level in mortal classes per standard epic characters. These sound like they counter eah other. What...

    Death of the LGS

Cater to other games they play. The larger surviving stores carry multiple games (board, video, books, etc). We carry GW as well as supply mutliple hobbies. RPG's are on the downswing as far as local stores are concerned.

    Death of the LGS

Yeah I'm probably being a bit over dramatic about it. :) Still, we've seen similar patterns. It'll only hurt the game in the long run.

    Death of the LGS

It has been proven that this does not work. Give out things for free, and you get folks looking for handouts. If you want to sell, sell it cheap. In time sensitive markets such as gaming, you also sell it first. No LGS can do this over larger competitors. Confidentiality isn't all that safe...

    Death of the LGS

And how many distributors or LGS's can buy that many? They don't need to. People talk, even when clauses have been established. It's the human factor, and very hard to negate. Look to the leak of both GW and WotC materials for examples. You would also see effects in both business, as neither...

    Death of the LGS

We'd have heard about it by now. Amazon or B&N seeing possible legal action from wizards would be industry news. They won't do anything. Much as we want to believe otherwise, wizards sn't big enough to go after these companies. They can't afford to.

    Death of the LGS

Then why aren't all distributors or LGS's offered this same incentive? By doing nothing to curtail the releases in Amazon or B&N, they have effectively condoned their actions. Wizard's won't do anything because whatever incestive has been established is batter than what they get from LGS's...

    Death of the LGS

Accepting greater bulk sales, even at a lower price than those given to distributiors, is an incentive. Especially if they promise to purchase under the same terms with furture products. No, I'm not. We had customers coming in bragging about receiving their copies from amazon early. When we...

    Death of the LGS

Then why is it that amazon can afford a 50% discount AND ignoring release dates when those buying from distributors cannot?

    Death of the LGS

Then what incentives is amazon giving companies like WotC that allows them to sell these books at such reduced rates that they can't or won't give o these other retailers?

    Death of the LGS

Which begs the question: if this is the case, why isn't amazon selling the item directly?

    Death of the LGS

Wizards tried the computers and gaming tables with the three stores they opened. All it usually garnerd were kids looking to play free games.

    Death of the LGS

Depwnds on how you look at it. 1) Wal-mart hasn't killed off all competition yet. 2) Having your own factories and shipping means under cutting these industries, especially with as much business as Wal-Mart could generate for them. Combine that with telling employees to use welfare for...

    Death of the LGS

This is really not true. I'm an employee of my FLGS, and having a gaming area does not bring in customers. Discounting our product lower than the competition does. We regularly have customers come to us for a product, then go back to another place for the tables. Even though the other place was...

    Mike Mearls On the OGL

Even with that, the OGL couldn't get its recognition without D&D. It puts them in the same boat. d20 is just as simplicitic at its core.

How has the 4e/3e schism affected you?

There are debates at the local gaming store, but nothing huge. So far, results are mixed.

Following that example every other rpg system is a failure. As for modular builds, that is also part of the subjective aspect of the game. The heros system has greater modularity and complexity, the storytellers system less so. Both are popular with their perferred groups.

Which would be fine for systems with definite signs for improvement. Unfortunately RPG's are subjective. The only real result is in one's head. Some folks like faster combat, some folks like more comprehensive combat, some like simulationist games, others prefer storytelling. You can't create or...

    Mike Mearls On the OGL

For all intents and purposes, 4e has distanced itself from the original d20 model. The new game is dramatically different from 3rd ed, attempting to capture a different consumer base. This leaves a heck of a base for Paizo and others two work with, especially since most gamers support several...
