D&D 5E Curse of Strahd help

My reading of the Baron is that he's petty and vindictive; not at all the sort who would just wave something off as a 'misunderstanding'. Your interpretation is really what matters though. In your situation, I would encourage them towards a stealth/infiltration scenario to get into/out of...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Wizards & Warlocks -- Hexblades, Raven Queens, and Lore Mastery!

This is true, I just think that because they can be either spells or meta-magic. Meta-magic should be balanced against the cost of a spell slot, and ultimately sorcery points fill the same "design space" as arcane recovery. They are different, to be sure. But, ideally, should be valued...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Wizards & Warlocks -- Hexblades, Raven Queens, and Lore Mastery!

This is essentially true. In a vacuum, Lore Master is probably a balanced subclass, albeit one that overshadows the weaker wizard subclasses. I'm just not OK with the fact that they stepped on sorcerer's supposed strength (spontaneous adaptability) in creating this subclass class. I think the...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Wizards & Warlocks -- Hexblades, Raven Queens, and Lore Mastery!

Not really. Both Sorc and Wizard have the same spell progression. Sorcs get Font of Magic, Wizards get Arcane recovery. At 6th level, a sorc has 6 points, which could be: 3 1st-level spells, 2 2nd-level spells, or a 3rd-level spell with 1 SP left over. A 6th level wizard could get: 3 1st level...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Wizards & Warlocks -- Hexblades, Raven Queens, and Lore Mastery!

Font of Magic means Spell Points should be considered spells. Not 1 for 1, obviously. But it's fundamentally the same resource.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Wizards & Warlocks -- Hexblades, Raven Queens, and Lore Mastery!

I think the WotC team failed to achieve their design goals, then. According to them, wizards have every answer but need to prepare, sorcerers adapt to their situation, and warlocks punch through with whatever they have. The resource cost of metamagic vs Spell Secrets and Alchemical Magic gives...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Wizards & Warlocks -- Hexblades, Raven Queens, and Lore Mastery!

This is only true because 2/3 of the published sorcerers (draconic, storm) specialize on a single damage type. However, the defining characteristic or sorcerers that has been spouted at us since the playtest, their defining characteristic, is supposed to be their innate, flexible control over...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Wizards & Warlocks -- Hexblades, Raven Queens, and Lore Mastery!

Except that wizards have the choice to prepare the utility spells. They do not have to. Many of those are spells that can be cast from the spellbook without preparation. Sorcerers have no choice, day to day. Furthermore, Metamagic is almost a direct equivalent to Arcane Recovery, and Spell...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Wizards & Warlocks -- Hexblades, Raven Queens, and Lore Mastery!

Um what? Spell Secrets, Alchemical Casting, and Master of Magic completelyoutshine the sorcerer in on-the-fly spell adaptation. These are features that shouldbe completely in the sorcerer's wheelhouse and, as far as I am concerned, should be core metamagic options for them. Wizards are supposed...

D&D 5E Good art and Really bad art in the 5e PHB

I'm a big fan of the PHB art too, and I was very excited about how much space was dedicated to it. The conditions in the back are excellent and whimsical, and I think the half-orc paladin is very cool. It's one of my favorite pieces from the book. Fierce, strong, and defiant. I have no problem...

    D&D 5E Druid 20 = Infinite Hit Points

This isn't accurate at all. From the PHB pg. 67: "When you transform, you assume the beast's hit points and Hit Dice. When you revert to your normal form, you return to the number of hit points you had before you transformed."

D&D 5E The Champion. Needs Fixing?

Literally, anything else would have been better. Try "newbie class," "rules-light class," or "basic class." They all get the point across in a tone that suits the inclusiveness of our loved hobby.

    D&D 5E Shield Mastery Feat

This was my assumption when I read the feat the first time. I also think it's the most fun, so it's what I'm gonna run with if the feat ever pops up in my game.

D&D 5E How would you make a character who uses a shield like Captain America?

At the moment, the only way to effectively attack with a shield to do damage is to pick up the Tavern Brawler feat. Shields aren't weapons according to the RAW, so attacking with one is an improvised weapon attack. Once you have Tavern Brawler you are proficient with improvised weapons. All...

    D&D 5E Legends & Lore 4/21

True, but, I always thought that the 4e tools were clunky and bad, yet all-but-essential. I would much rather see these tables (so that I don't need the online tools) in conjunction with slick online tools (that I can use, if it suits me). Depending on what I am preparing for, I can have very...

Multi-Classing Idea that Generates the Least Problems

This could be a solid idea, but I don't really see how it's compatible with the D&D Next class system as we understand it. I see this more as a foundation for a completely different class system than as a module that could be used with DDN.

    D&D 5E Legends & Lore 4/21

I hope there is a lot of space in the DMG devoted to tables of dungeon content. I am someone who will rarely randomly create a dungeon, BUT, I get a lot of use out of extensive lists of traps/features. I find such tables to be an excellent point of inspiration. The content of the article today...

D&D 5E Stealth to hide and then attack from hidden

Not in combat, but out of combat I would allow my players to make a Dexterity (Stealth) check to silently creep up on someone who is occupied or looking elsewhere. An elven rogue in one of my games made great use of Stealth and attacking with a bow from the shadows and/or trees.
