Why there won't be a "Player's Handbook II"

I think whatever we get will contain a large amount of material previously released through UA articles. I just don't think that book will be titled Unearthed Arcana. With the exception of the three core rulebooks, Mike Mearls does not want to retread books from previous editions. The large...

Why there won't be a "Player's Handbook II"

I would be fine with a book titled Player's Handbook II or Unearthed Arcana. What I don't want is Volo's Guide to Adventuring. The reason I'm in favor of the first two and but not the third is that I don't want everything branded as Forgotten Realms.

D&D 5E I'm the DM and a player is trying to abuse the Immovable Rod. Advice?

This thread is giving me ideas for traps that have a chance of rewarding the players with an Immovable Rod, either removed from the disarmed trap or excavated from the rubble after it goes off.

D&D 5E I'm the DM and a player is trying to abuse the Immovable Rod. Advice?

It just takes a little more engineering. The house could be built in small sections, none weighing more than a couple thousand pounds. Then the sections are simply placed close enough to create a house, but aren't actually connected. It would have leaks and drafts, but that just adds...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Revenant Subrace, Monster Hunter, and Inquisitive

The Revenant definitely is not going to be appropriate for every character or every campaign. For this reason, I wouldn't allow a player to start a campaign as a Revenant.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Revenant Subrace, Monster Hunter, and Inquisitive

Implementing the Revenant as a subrace substitution is a good move. It strikes this weird balance of being both a potential penalty for dying and a potential reward for great roleplaying. Coming back as a Revenant should be a character-changing event, and losing part of what your character was...

D&D 5E Not convinced yet... but

I think in the OPs other post, it was stated: * rolled stats with one 18 that was appointed to strength. * variant human with dual wielder feat, and +2 to strength....somehow (+1 to strength, and another +1 to strength?) * and 2d8+10, making the 2d8+14 above a probable typo. Not sure how he...

D&D 5E Is Savage Attacker worth it?

I understand how Savage Attacker works and that all dice are rerolled. Savage Attacker allows one to pick either sum; it is does not force the second sum for better or worse. The math is quite clear and no matter how many dice are being rolled, the expected value of max ( sum(xdy), sum(xdy) )...

D&D 5E Is Savage Attacker worth it?

I think I understand what you're trying to say. There are diminishing returns for each additional die being rerolled, but each additional die added to the pool still increases the expected value. If the DM allows Savage Attacker to work on Sneak Attack dice, High level Rogues may get the...

D&D 5E Is Savage Attacker worth it?

What? The damage distributions are easy to figure out. And it's easy to compare two distributions and know which will yield a higher DPR.

D&D 5E Is Savage Attacker worth it?

I consider the extra dice from Sneak Attack to be weapon dice because Sneak Attack only works with weapons, and the Sneak Attack damage does not have an explicit type, e.g. piercing, slashing, but inherits the type from the weapon used to make the attack. Given Savage Attacker's once-per-turn...

WotC's Nathan Stewart: "Story, Story, Story"; and IS D&D a Tabletop Game?

I'm entirely happy without Psionics. I've never been attracted to the flavor. However I think they should be included in the core PHB for one reason: it would increase the chance they are balanced with the core classes, unlike every previous edition.
