D&D General Fighting Law and Order

Yeah, I’ve got this nagging feeling this is a you problem, not a they problem. Nothing personal, but judging merely from your posts in this thread, you might have rolled a 3 for Charisma IRL. I don’t think one can really be a good DM without some modicum of empathy, and the ability to...

D&D General Fighting Law and Order

That kind of campaign setting design isn’t usually that hard to justify. Using the kobold caves example, maybe the kobolds would detect a large military force encroaching on their wilderness turf, and they would be gone (along with the hostages) before the military can even find them. Perhaps...

D&D General Inheritances laws are changed so that regardless of gender the oldest child inherits, as a result a 15 old year boy lose's his inheritance

This seems to be more of a Crusader Kings topic than a D&D one, so I’ll answer in Crusader Kings terms! Everyone is going to be pissed at the succession law changing, especially those who stand to directly lose something (the former heir, obviously, but also, for example, the family of his...

D&D General Fighting Law and Order

Since this isn’t the OP’s game, I would advise the OP to ask the game’s DM for very detailed advice on what to do. If the game’s DM was unable to provide any kind of direction, or if his advice was something like “just kill them lol”, I’d excuse myself from the substitute DM position.

WotC may have sent the Pinkertons to a magic leakers home. Update: WotC confirms it and has a response.

Apologies if my post came out as unnecessarily scathing, it was meant to be more tongue in cheek than mean spirited. Also, yeah, the compliment is genuine, I do believe you're defending your position well, as much as I don't agree with it.

WotC may have sent the Pinkertons to a magic leakers home. Update: WotC confirms it and has a response.

Mr Squirrel, are you working for WotC? Because if you aren’t they should really consider hiring you! Your ability to spin a narrative that excuses a goon-employing mega corp from all wrongdoing while even managing to paint a very incriminating picture of their alleged victim is frankly...

WotC may have sent the Pinkertons to a magic leakers home. Update: WotC confirms it and has a response.

All I can say is that my predisposition towards WotC isn't negative to begin with, I've been a customer of theirs for decades. Predisposition can degrade after enough consecutive eff-ups however. I don't think that's unreasonable? Likewise, I appreciate your measured attitude. Why should...

WotC may have sent the Pinkertons to a magic leakers home. Update: WotC confirms it and has a response.

I mean, if you do understand my concern as you properly explained at the end of your post, then what is the beginning of your post about? People make informed guesses all the time, it's not frightening/disappointing/alarming. Someone in the field of philosophy could even say that objectivity...

WotC may have sent the Pinkertons to a magic leakers home. Update: WotC confirms it and has a response.

Nobody here is a juror at a trial currently, but ok, let’s look at both sides objectively. One side is a private citizen and it’s accusing the other, a mega corp, of employing contractors that did something that is either a very morally suspect action or a crime. The mega corp is flatly denying...

WotC may have sent the Pinkertons to a magic leakers home. Update: WotC confirms it and has a response.

So somebody reporting a crime (or something questionable/immoral) being committed against them shouldn't be believed, ever, unless we have footage or something? That's certainly a position. Innocent until proven guilty is good in court, but in the court of deciding where to spend my own money, I...

WotC may have sent the Pinkertons to a magic leakers home. Update: WotC confirms it and has a response.

And what are the details of the event? Wotc just refuted a version of the events, without providing another. You'll have to excuse me if, in the meantime, I tend to believe that the infamous PI group might have done some questionable (or possibly illegal) things.

This article is at the top of Google searches Magic 'Raid' Wasn't First Time WotC Hired Pinkertons [UPDATED] "In an email exchange with io9, Cannon confirmed the statements he made on the video and added additional context, stating that “as soon as my wife answered the door they aggressively...

WotC may have sent the Pinkertons to a magic leakers home. Update: WotC confirms it and has a response.

While these kind of events can be blown out of proportion as they are retold time and again, even the most charitable of the retellings is bad enough that I believe we should hold WotC accountable. They made an half-assed effort to contact Mr. Cannon (no email, mail, or voicemail), they elected...

I may have used the wrong term there. Filing a police report is probably more in line with what I meant to say. I know it’s what I would do if goons came to my door, forced their way in, and made threats.

I’ve got a feeling that they’re trying to be nice partially because of PR, and partially as a please-don’t-sue-us tactic, but yeah.

To be fair, I think he’s coming out of this a winner. Never heard of the guy before, now I have. I’m sure he gained subscribers, and apparently WotC is replacing the stuff they raided as an apology for the bad manners, anyway.

I can see the moral argument (to a degree), much less the legal one. While there’s a non zero chance that he’d lose in court, IMO he’d have the upper hand… …but yeah, given how courts work in the US, taking a chance against a big corp wouldn’t have been wise, even with 99% chance victory. It...

Keep in mind that (as Bedrockgames explained) copyright disputes are often resolved in favor of the copyright holder even when they’re wrong. Heck, there are frequent cases of companies that don’t even hold the relevant copyright managing to take down or demonetize a video. Fair use vs...

WotC may have sent the Pinkertons to a magic leakers home. Update: WotC confirms it and has a response.

Possibly. I’m fairly sure WotC could have gotten YouTube to take down the guy’s video, maybe inflicting a copyright strike in the process. Anything more than that? I’m not a copyright lawyer, but I doubt they could have accomplished anything more than bleeding the guy for legal fees. Of course...
