    DMing Marathon Sessions?

I'm thinking of making the first day tighter since I already know the player's general choices. The second day will probably be more difficult since I won't have a month to plan for it. Heh, I made the mistake of drinking too many rum/cokes in the last session. Won't do that again. P.S...

    DMing Marathon Sessions?

Our group meets infrequently, but the sessions are pretty lengthy (once a month for 8 hours with breaks). So far this has worked surprisingly well. The players that are susceptible to mentally checking out are engaged throughout the three sessions we’ve had (I’m making a concerted effort to...

    Naval Combat

I'm just trying to learn the basics of naval combat. The only experience with naval ships is through Sid Meyer's "Pirates!" on the commodore 64... so yeah...no experience at all. The possibility of a naval encounter would be the session after next, something involving human pirates attempting...

    Naval Combat

I'm running a campaign that may have naval combat. There doesn't seem to be any standardized rules for this, but I'm willing to bet this quandary has popped up before. How do you handle naval combat in 4e?

How do you handle Experience Points?

Usually RAW, but for the current campaign DM discretion. I just started a new campaign over two months ago. In real life, the group is scattered across northern California from Lake Tahoe to the SF Bay Area so we only we meet once a month for a 6-8 hour D&D marathon. As the DM, I decided to...

Camorr Map (Lies of Locke Lamora)

I'm not sure what "<3 LoLL" means but I will take it as words of encouragement ;). Not that anybody else ask, but here's the answer given to me: -The circumference of the Shifting Market (found on the map) is about .5 miles -The diameter of the Market is .16 miles -This makes Camorr roughly...

Camorr Map (Lies of Locke Lamora)

Hello I’m not sure if this is posted in the right spot, but here goes: I’m trying to implement my own version of the city of Camorr from Scott Lynch’s book Lies of Locke Lamora within my campaign world. I’m hoping somebody here has already done that. I’m searching for a scale (miles...

WotC to Release 1st Edition Premium Core Rulebooks Reprints

For the non-event organizer/store owner, how would one come by a copy of the original PHB, DMG, and MM? When I clicked through the links, it seemed these books were not available for the average joe. Perhaps I'm wrong on this. If so, please enlighten me. This would make a perfect gift for...

    Monks Broken or Not

It seems to me that using a Monk's wis rather than str as a melee hit/damage modifier would solve a lot problems with multiple ability dependency. It wouldn't be too over powering to just give the monk these feats right from the start, would it?

    Monks Broken or Not

This is what turns me off whenever I consider playing Monk. If there was a way to narrow the scope of pertinent class ability scores while keeping the class powers intact, I'd give the monk a shot.

    DnD Granite Quarry

The info and ideas here have been extremely helpful, thank you. I feel I have pieces of a puzzle, now all I have to do is find right ones to fit together. I'm trying to fit these pieces within the context of my campaign world, which makes things even more complex and bring up issues well beyond...

    DnD Granite Quarry

This sound right? A narrow, deep ravine with two paths on either side. The granite would be transported by raft thats tethered to huge domesticated beasts. These beasts would travel the two side paths while mounted guards surrounded them with archers sitting on top of the granite. How in the...

    DnD Granite Quarry

heh, why bother with this if I never use it, right? I want to have a solid idea of how things operate for two reasons: First and foremost, as a possible adventure hook. By understanding how things are supposed to work, I can find interesting ways to screw it up. For example, what if the...

    DnD Granite Quarry

So this is the scenario I've work out.. Humans from far to the east on the other side of a mountain chain, discover a motherlode of granite hundreds of miles away from their homeland. Knowing that this would be a difficult (but profitable ) operation, they hire dwarves as foremen in exchange...

    DnD Granite Quarry

Important info, thanks! @DanMcS The link to the Egyptions gave a good sense of the basics for stoncutting. Good stuff. @Dannyalcatraz I really like aqueduct idea. Unfortunately, I think mischievous goblinoids and bandits would have a field day destroying it since there'd be no way to...

    DnD Granite Quarry

That video was perfect, thanks! I can develop some good details from that footage (especially the hamster-wheel thingee). I'll have to hit up a library for the author. A serious flaw in my set up is transporting the stone since I want it to be overland. I could always pencil in a river but...

    DnD Granite Quarry

Hello, Near a large town I'm using as a starting point for my next campaign sits a granite quarry. Other than a mark on a map and a few glib phrases used as a general description, I've yet to design a functioning quarry. Now I have no knowledge of quarries or sediments, but fortunately neither...

D&D 3.x gamers who skipped 4e, why are you not "upgrading" to Pathfinder?

Our group is just getting down 3.5 way of doing things. I'm sure that half of the group would have no problem with the new tweaks and edits, but the other half would be frustrated by these changes (perhaps alienating one player in particular). Plus I plan on throwing some changes at them with...

What could a publisher sell you RIGHT NOW/

I imagine that if someone created an E6 phb, then I'd just be paying that person to gather and organize all the available info that currently exists. I have zero problem with this.
