OOC: On the map. Sorry thought I already did that. Question regarding map: I notice there are black lines around the "grass" that the cannons are placed on. Edging the grass is a black border that is on the left, right and most of the front with the exception of 1 square. Does the black border represent a fence wall or other movement hindering items? If yes then I would like Ilex to be place at J 14 instead.

"Boomer," Haaku shouts back to the old dwarf, "load the other cannons too!"

OOC: I figure if they don't come down one of the docks, that's a best case scenario, and if we never end up needing one of the cannons, that's better than having to try to fire one of the cannons a round in advance. Any dissent?

OOC: Sorry about that, Ilex! I forgot to mention the fence around the grass. Thanks for noticing and reminding me. You are correct...it IS a short 4' fence that surrounds the grass except for the entrance square to those properties, which doesn't provide any cover or concealment, but it DOES mean that going "through" the fence requires a DC 12 Athletics check to climb it or jump over it.

I have placed Ilex in J 14 as requested and will be starting the battle in my next post!

In what seems like only a matter of a few additional seconds, the invaders rush in, moving at full speed toward the docks. Howls of bloodthirsty anticipation can be heard coming from just below decks of the ships as the invaders prepare to lay waste to the town. Hordes of frothy-mouthed humanoids rush to the decks of their ships, preparing to charge right off of the prow of their ships and onto the docks, weapons raised high in the air in frightening displays of ferocity....that is until the ships run full throttle into Ilex's rope trap!

Slamming into the underwater barrier, the surfaced occupants are flung onto their faces as they carry the momentum that the ships USED to have! The adventurer's can hear the ropes strain under the stress of over 900,000 pounds of boat and frantic speed threatening to break the lines, and boomer lets out a defiant guffaw when he sees the warriors on board the ships fall over like bowling pins.

Suddenly, the strain on the eastern portion of the ropes is too much for it to handle, and the knots slip loose, allowing one of the three ships to slide forward, hitting the shore line with minimal force. Freed of their bondage and now able to reach land, a group of bladeling warriors on board dash forward, leaping from the deck of the ship onto land, weapons at the ready and eyes crazy with blood lust.

With a savage shriek the small spiny warriors fling a hail of javelin's at their closest foes. In their excitement, all but one of the bladelings' throws go well wide of their targets. However, one javelin flies true, piercing the furry shoulder of one Ursa Major. The owl bear howls in pain, looking at its master to either comfort it, or give it the command to attack. At the site of blood, all of the psycho little humanoid pincushions jump up and down, frothing at the mouth all the more and shouting a disturbing little rhyme:

"Blood and gore, all for Kror! Blood and gore, all for Kror! Take a head! Take a limb! Do it now or else you'll swim!"

[sblock=Actions and Initiative]

All 3 ships move in, hitting the ropes. I set the DC for the ropes to 19 (15 for the thievery check +2 for Ilex's assitance, and +2 just cause I thought it was a kick-ass idea and wanted to see it have a good chance of succeeding!).

[sblock=OOC]

I am going to assume that all 3 cannons are loaded, but will be flexible, as I kind of jumped the gun here. Take until the end of the first round to come to an agreement on which cannons are loaded.

Also, in another post that I read, [MENTION=75065]jbear[/MENTION] mentioned having a quick get-away for a few days, so lets give him a couple days to post his actions. [/sblock]

Fhangrim flashed that wide smile and introduced himself unusually formally.

"Greetings invaders! Welcome to Fhangrim's Marvelous Menagerie! For my first trick, you will notice that I have nothing up this sleeve... nothing up the other. But with a tap of my Mystical Staff from the Tree of Sorrows..."

Fhangrim taps the ground with his staff. Three stones fly from the tip of the staff, three stones hit three invaders. Three invaders splash into the harbor.

Fhangrim turns to the fourth.

"I have made your friends DISAPPEAR!"

"Hmph," Haaku mutters, as he sidesteps javelins. "This is nothing." Before the sole remaining savage can react, Haaku closes with him. In the blink of an eye, the bladeling's throat is torn open, and Haaku's claw is stained with blood. He holds his bloody gauntlet up toward the ship and shouts, "This trash is an insult! Send someone who can fight!"

Ilex jumps up and down cheering as she watches the first two boats get hampered by the ropes. Seeing the third boat break through, she watches Fhangrim's trick dispatch the first three to disembark the vessel with glee and then as she is about to move to attack she stops as Haaku enters her attack zone and crumples the remaining bladeling. Ilex bides her time waiting for the next enemy to attack.

[sblock=action] Ilex moves to P12 in anticipation of her next attack. [/sblock]

OOC: Ilex thinks that all three cannons should be loaded but that the extra shots should be kept at the center cannon with Boomer. The left and right cannons should be aimed at the most likely spot they will need to be fired at with a lit torch near by as she can use mage hand to lite the fuse of one or possibly. The fences make getting to the other two cannons impractical for Boomer. Two rounds of

GM: Mid-round update

Fhangrim's magnificent magic mutilates multiple menaces, mocking their meager melons with might!

Haaku hurriedly harries the heckling humanoid, hands housed in hemoglobin.

However...Haaku harried too soon before noticing Fhangrim's victims, and hadn't witnessed the macabre foreshadowing to come. As each magical stone impacted with its fleshy target, that bladeling shook vigorously in its last death throes and then exploded in a shower of iccor, blood, and deadly spikes! Because Haaku was not able to see this before rushing in, he was caught off guard as his bloody victim's last emotion was that of vengeful anger, shaking itself to death and shooting out deadly spikes which penetrated the desert warrior's light clothing, turning him into a pincushion!

[sblock=Surprise!!!]
One more thing to add to the statblock above is the following attack for the Einherjar Bladeling Savages:

Death Spikes: Encounter; Close burst 1.
Trigger: The Einherjar Bladeling Savage is reduced to 0 hp or less.
Target: Enemies in the burst.
Attack: +5 vs Reflex
Hit: 9 damage

When the EBS's were killed they triggered this ability, which was completely innefective in the case of EBS 1 through 3, but since Haaku was in the burst of EBS4's Death Spikes, it got a chance to attack, rolling 19 vs reflex, hitting Haaku for 9 damage!

[sblock=ooc]

That leaves only Leather to go for this round, as the other ships full of bad-guys haven't broken through Ilex's rope trap! [/sblock]

First Post
Leather watches with cool interest as his companions dispatch the first wave of bladelings that arrive into port. With no enemies yet to attack he holds the line awaiting their inevitable arrival through the rope trap. He takes note of the bladeling's deadly explosion upon death grumbling. "This is going to be painful..."

[sblock=OOC] No enemies to target left. Drop into Total Defense for their inevitable arrival. [/sblock]

After the team of adventurers quickly dispatch the small group of bladelings and learn the folly of taking them on in melee combat without being prepared for shrapnel the remaining ships push through Ilex's rope trap, allowing both ships to come to a halt at the shore line.

A small horde of bladelings rushes Leather, rusty swords slashing wildly at the dark skinned warrior, but his superior training and weaponry skills allow him to deflect each and every blow sent his way, including that of a throw javelin! Truly would Lieutenant Proudman have been impressed at this display of fighting talents!

From within the central ship, the sounds of loud snapping and shouting can be heard just before a cluster of crazed Goliath spear wielders charges out. More afraid of what was behind them, then what was before them, they rush their enemies, stabbing ahead of them fervently with sharpened bone spear-heads and manage to score devastating hits against both Ursa Major and Noctua Ursa, who happened to be the closest living beings to the empty-gazing Goliaths. The Owlbears disappear in a shower of glitter and flashing light. Shortly afterward, a large Bugbear saunters out of the central ship following the psychotic Goliath warriors. Wielding a nasty bladed whip, he snaps it in the direction of the Goliaths, who's muscles twitch with every crack.

"Fodder you kill easy, yes? But I see we kill you too! You be few and we be many! How you can beat us now!?" taunts the Bugbear, mocking you with a deep-throated laughter.

[sblock=Actions & Statuses]
