Gath

"E.q.u.a.l.s. ? Meaning no master, no slave ? Me like that. Me be equals to everyone now !" He proclaims proudly. Unless someone addresses him, Gath will remain silent for the rest of the trek.

Redarn smiles at Gath's conclusion but doesn't press him on it further. As the wagon starts around the curve of a hill, Rainca runs up ahead and sees a oddly recognizable sight. The road ahead is blocked by four men standing side by side. Unlike those the previous day, they are dressed in clean, neat clothes and wearing leather armor. They have sheathed swords at their waists and two look like they are carrying bows across their backs, but while they seem alert and waiting for the wagon they have made no move to ready their weapons.

Rainca's fluting voice shrills an alarm. She holds a hand up as her long-legged stride brings her swiftly to the wagon.

"Hoar-suns." She squints up at the sky seeking the silent flight of Restless Brother Owl, "They do not draw. This is the time. Rainca will go to them. If they have treachery in their hearts, Rainca will find it and cut it out. Or you will sing songs over her body."

She slings her bow over her shoulder. "Warrior Gath Stonefist, Lupic, Dioran Uthelem, Redarn Horsewarder, the others will need protection." She rakes her hawk's eyes across the Bluerun natives before snapping her eyes back to the dark woodsman, "Rainca would like Joseph Dar'maryon to be her shadow." She inclines her head to treeline along the roadside.

Gath

Gath grips tightly his polearm. "Ok, me guard the people. No problem." With some hesitation, he adds "Rainca, you wise but you sure we not best smash them ?"

"I shall be your ever present shadow, Rainca of the Barav Kree." Joseph speaks softly. " My blade is in your hands."

Rainca nods to Joseph Dar'maryon and turns to face the bandits, arms spread, palms open. She turns and calls over her shoulder, "All will soon learn the depth of Rainca's wisdom, warrior Gath Stonefist. Pray that she is not shown a fool."

She advances forward, teeth bared in a questionable smile, head held high, back straight. Her ears strain for the sound of archers in the underbrush and her eyes scan the sky for a familiar owl. She relaxes her mind and awareness to melt with the surroundings, taking it all in with her breath. All in with her breath. All in. And out. In. Out.

Come, Blood Father.

Her breath hisses, growing hot as it passes through clenched teeth.

Sit upon my brow in glory.

Her shoulders broadcast the movement of her labored breath. Her hands, outstretched to her sides, clench and unclench involuntarily. Her eyes blaze.

Make my enemies tremble before your anger.

She stokes the fires of rage as she approaches the waiting bandits and, though alone, she stands tall on the brink of fury before their stayed blades.

The time for your wrath approaches.

She stops within a spear's throw arms still outstretched and calls in a loud clear voice, harsh, like stone. "Rainca of the Barav Kree speaks." She sweeps a red-tinged gaze across the men, "Who here leads?"

OOC: Intimidate +3. She's not making any active attempt to intimidate them, but a barbarian quietly working herself into a rage as she walks slowly toward you should be plenty unsettling.

As Rainca moves forward, a couple of the men seem nervous, but they plant their hands firmly together to avoid reaching towards their weapons. As the wind turns she hears
some sounds in the grassy hills above her, and perhaps even the sound of a bowstring, but it is interupted by a hissed command "Not unless she attacks first!"

One of the less nervous men in the road steps forward in response to Rainca's question. "None of us are the leader of our band, ma'am. But if you and any other leaders of your force would come with us, there's someone who would like to meet you."

Joseph:
As you move along the hill to the right of Rainca, you see a man and a woman dressed similarly to those on the road, both with bows. The woman has her bow on the ground and a few arrows planted in the earth beside her. As you see them, the man is starting to nock an arrow, but the woman grabs his arm and whispers something you do not hear, and he takes on the same watching stance.

ooc: um, rainca? Joseph? Dorian who can probably hear this from the wagon? No one wants to say 'take me to your leader'? :p or attack them, or whatever you feel appropriate?

OOC: Was giving the others some time to respond.

Rainca exhales mightily through clenched teeth. The leashed violence singing in her bones and in her blood eases. I owe you blood, Father of Battle. You will have it. But not now. She closes her eyes shuddering as the rage drains away. She raises her head and stares up at the grassy hill toward the hiding hoar-suns. She grins her wolf's grin, "Rainca would very much like to meet Hiznibs. But we have sworn," she touches the band on her arm, "To protect these people in their travel. If you would allow us to escort them to safety Rainca will accompany you." She looks over her shoulder at the tense figures on the wagon, and waves an arm, smiling. "As will the others, Rainca thinks. Though some of them may be regret we are exchanging words and not blows." She laughs, as if she has told some great joke.

Two of the men confer briefly and then the one who had spoken first nods. "I can promise you that this wagon would be in no danger from our men if you chose to come with us now, but I admit there could be other dangers on this road. A quarter mile up the road there is a horse trail which branches off - too narrow for the wagon but its not far on foot. A guide will wait for you there, to take you to the individual who would like to speak to you."

Joeseph:
as Rainca and the man converse, the two archers you can see relax further and wait for the wagon to depart.
