I'm sure your defiant stance in the face of a game in mid-development and your attempts to get money back after playing substantial gameplay will be recited in legendary song. Huzzah.
You did notice all of the things telling you that if you expected a finished product you should not buy in until release, right? And saying it isn't 5E enough when it is still in development and they're listening to feedback on that very issue is a little ... short sighted, right?
Not in the least. I've since spent some time looking at the ability to mod the game, and the 'improvements' they have made to respond to feedback are things which mod's can (and will) not only do, but improve on further.
Mods are already able to add various classes to the game. They can add feats, and backgrounds, and spells.
The things that mods cannot do, the Developers did not even mention at all in the panel.
The movement system is an absolute joke, for 2021 game design. The original baldur's gate did it better. With ZERO exaggeration. It is factually better than what this game does. This was even proven on the panel if you watched it, as the CEO commented 'viewers are probably bored' as he attempted to navigate his games own poor system of controls, and camera.
The combat system (which can be fixed by mods, and so Larian could do RIGHT NOW) is so comically shifted towards controlling the high ground that any mechanics, or spells, around providing Advantage, are utterly useless, because its simply better to get to the high ground.
The desire demonstrated by Larian to make a flashy, meme-filled experience, has completely outweighed any attempt to implement feedback from the community beyond improving some dialogue options because the female companions are 'too mean' and implement some childish sex scenes.
My (three) requests yesterday for a refund where all denied. So I instead will be modding the game to remove as many of the actually terrible design choices Larian is noted for doubling down on in their prior games.
If what is available now in this EA is 'substantial' gameplay then this will not be a game that is played in 20 years, as the first 2 Baldur's Gate games continue to be.
It will be a flash in the pan meme.
