I'm certainly interested. I have a concept written up but have yet to do the crunchy stuff.

What is your cut-off date for submissions?

I think this Friday the 21 is reasonable. I will make a descision over the weekend for the 4-5 players. So you have a little time. :)

Cool. I'm off for Christmas starting Friday, 21 December, so I'll certainly be around to be thrilled by my character's inclusion in the game.

I would be NMF's aforementioned friend. The Caramon fighty half of the brothers is an idealistic, staid kinda guy. He's got a good heart and intentions, but commits all those unconscious sins of the naive and indoctrinated: arrogance, a slightly patronizing view of others, mild vanity, etc. I'd like to see him grow from being holy to Holy, you know?

It seems prudent to of course ask first whether or not you're even considering Hellknights/aspiring HK novices as viable PCs. The player's guide is maddeningly ambiguous on this, suggesting both that some of the Hellknights are paladins and then that it's an evil organization. (I suppose both could in fact be true?)

Anyway, once I get your answer I'll post a less sketchy character concept & background, tweaked to fit your verdict.

Sorry for not getting back to you on this sooner.

I like your ideas, and could allow for some good roleplaying.

As for the Hellknights, they are included in the worldview of Golarian, and they have a small bit about them in the 2nd issue of Pathfinder. So I'm OK with your characters path leading him in theat direction. Could prove interesting!

While I realize that the holidays may slow down posting a bit, I'd like to have the characters of those interested by the end of this weekend (Sunday) if at all possible. If you can't just post here and I'll give some more time. I hope that enough of you are still interested to play, otherwise I'll shut down for now.

Let me know if you are still interested. Thanks!! :D

History: Born near Sandpoint, Nicklas “Redbeard” Norstrom was made fun of as a kid because he was a little overweight. Nicklas spent a lot of time playing by himself in the wilderness, so the other children wouldn’t tease him. He knew the patterns and kinds of animals. His father was a sailor and sometimes Nicklas would join his father on fishing trips down the coast. He loved everything about the sea, the smell, the wind, and the freedom. One day a wandering Elven druid took notice of the chubby young boy on fishing vessel and talked to the boy’s parents. Nicklas’s parents were concerned for their boy, because of his weight, and lack of any friends besides some squirrels and deer. They hoped that living and training with the druids would toughen their son up a little bit, make him loose a little weight, and they though that maybe he’d make some friends. Nicklas was happy to go, other than his parents he wouldn’t really leave anyone else behind. After completing his tutelage in under the watchful eyes of the druids, Redbeard left them behind returning to the region where he grew up. He lives in a small house outside of town, and can often be seen talking to farmers, giving them advice on how to grow the best crops by weather patterns and natural insect repellents.

Appearance: Redbeard is short and overweight at 5’8” and 215lbs. His blonde hair is goes to just past his shoulders and is not kept clean. Likewise, his unruly red beard is long(about 6”)and unkempt. If seen carrying all his gear, he is sweating profusely, red in the face, and gasping for breath. The smell of an unclean body, pine needles, and the earth follows him around. An large dog, accompanies the man everywhere, drooling on whatever passes near his mouth. When traveling, Nicklas likes to forage in the wilds, he is a pretty good cook, and would prefer eat that to having trail rations. He is patient, willing to take his time doing almost anything, except eat, this eat does rather quickly.[/sblock]

[sblock=Background]The third son of Lord Darvak, a noble of Chelish descent, Makarios was a quiet, mannered child. Though athletic, he would be the first to admit that he was a little... slow, shall we say? Unlikely to become heir as well, he was content to largely escape the notice of his parents and tutors to spend most of his time with the manor staff. Eager to be useful, he spent much of his time helping with humble chores (or inadvertently hindering the long-suffering staff), and consequently developed an empathy for the plight of the common folk, skewed though it was by his privileged birth.

For a staid youth with a keen sense of responsibility, joining the prestigious Hellknight Order of the Nail was a natural aspiration. At 16, he left for Citadel Vraid with the blessings of his parents.

Five years of training later, he returned as a novice member of the Order, proud but slightly directionless - Lord Darvak hadn't the right connections to secure a prestigious initial posting for his son, and the continued drudgery of squirehood seemed like a terrible disappointment after five years of anticipation.

Fortunately, his elder brother Sethys was similarly aimless, and together the two hatched a plan: To walk the earth and make a name for themselves in the wild frontierlands of Varisia! Righting wrongs, seizing opportunities, spreading the virtues of civilization and culture - it all sounded good.

The first stop in the "wilderness" for the pair is the town of Sandpoint, where Makarios is eager to witness their upcoming festival.[/sblock]

Not sure if the background jives with the extra info you've got on the order. Guidance would be appreciated, but we can work that out if Mak gets tapped for the campaign.

[sblock=Background]
As a bullet point background, Sethys is the second son of house Darvak, a minor noble house of Chelax. At a young age he went off to study the arcane arts as a wizard and learned from experienced Devil-Binders the school of conjuration. When he got back to his family after his training and apprenticeship, he hung around for a few years, and eventually realized that his father was in good health, his older brother was young and hearty, and there wasn't a chance in hell (no pun intended) that he'd get to amount to anything in the nobility. Tired and bored, he and his brother Makarios, just recently returned from being invested as a Hellknight of the Order of the Nail, decided to travel to colonies and look for adventure, fortune, and if nothing else entertainment and diversion.

[sblock=A Day in the Life]
Wrote this up as a sample of Sethys' style, it's from his days in school:

It was nearly midnight when Sethys slipped back into the room, shutting the door quietly behind him. Padding quietly over to his bed, he reached under it and slid his lockpicks and a thin package into the narrow space between frame and mattress. A poor hiding place, but the proctors never bothered to actually search the rooms, they just scanned them for magic each morning. The idea that an apprentice wizard would stoop to using such mundane means didn't cross their minds.

"I don't suppose it ever occurred to you that they'd assume I was in on it if they caught you?" Sethys started, nearly bumping his head on the underside of the bed. Sliding back out, he looked over at the now sitting figure of his roommate.

"Well then, it's a good thing I didn't get caught. Besides, it was worth it." He patted the bedframe almost fondly. "Virak Hellbinder's notes and diary, and it was just sitting in the back of the library, gathering dust. They didn't even have it cataloged properly, it was in a pile marked 'historical, needs shelving'. They'll never notice it was gone." Sethys slid into his bed, pulling the covers up and already planning for when he could next pry a few hours of the day free to steal back to his room and start reading.

Alright, I guess that everyone who wanted to submit a character has already, so I'll make a descision by Christmas Day. I will most likely limit it to no more than 5 players.

Thank you all for expressing an interest in playing. In case you don't make the cut, I appreciate the effort you put forth. This won't be an easy choice, either. I like everything I've seen so far. I will be looking at party balance as well as backgrounds.

Thanks again, and happy Holidays. I will post the final list and a link for the In-Character thread most likely on the 26th.

Stay safe!!
