What about hitting potential? Do not forget the fact that Centaur is a Large creature and suffer a size penalty.

A lousy -1 to hit? I wouldn't really call that "suffering"...

I always found it stupid that centaurs get +8 to strength. I think they need two strength scores - one for the top half, and one for the bottom half. No way is their human half going to be any stronger than a normal human.

True. With the typical idea of a centaur, the +8 to strength doesn't really fit.

IMC, the centaur's "human" half is actually larger than a normal human torso. Not by much, but enough to be noticable. The arm's are a tad longer, the skull is a bit bigger, and the chest is stockier. This goes nicely with the stats, and is plausable on top of a clydesdale body.
