Another thread got me thinking of some of my old characters and who they were named after. Thought other might like to post.

My brother had a dwarf in the basic/1e days named after the wrestler Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka. He was just named Snuka but everyone knew.

Much later I recall a halfling thief I had named Bartleby the Scrimshaw-er, named after the Melville character. He was in it for the gold and would "Prefer not to" a lot of theing he was not being paid for.

One of my first characters in the AD&D 1E days was a leather armor clad fighter named Shadowjack, after the character in Roger Zelazny novel of the same name. He didn't work out that well, as fighters in that edition were really geared toward using heavier armor.

Legend
In a beloved by me at least 3e campaign I named one NPC “Dr. Mephisophocles” after, well, Sophocles and Mephistopheles and another NPC “The Right Reverend Don Magic Wand” after a pimp friend of Snoop Dogg named Don Magic Juan.

Do either of those count?
