Converting original D&D and Mystara monsters

CR of 1/3? Thoughts on org and treasure?

1/3 seems about right. They're tougher than a kobold, but still do lousy damage.

The original critter only had treasure type K, or a 3-18 silver coins per Cayman.

That suggest they should have less than a standard Lizardfolk's "50% coins; 50% goods; 50% items".

How about 50% coins; 25% goods; 25% items?

We could mention they prefer silver pieces in the background text.

That treasure seems reasonable.

The original org doesn't seem too far off from 3.5 lizardfolk. Just copy that or go for something more specialized?

Doesn't mention any in the original stats. So what would you suggest?
Aurochs funnily enough given one of the other current conversions.

Savage Coast Monstrous Compendium said:
Intelligent and sociable, caymas live together in villages, herding aurochs (large, shaggy bison) and trading auroch meat and cinnabryl with the shazaks. Aurochs are about 6 feet tall at the shoulder, so the caymas have some interesting herding techniques. A cayma herder usually rides an auroch, using sticks with metal hooks on the end to tug on the auroch's ears, thereby directing it. Caymas have also domesticated small lizards (2 to 3 feet in length), which they use to pull their war chariots and as beasts of burden.

So we have the aurochs and small lizards.

That works for me.

Of course, that means we need stats for the Riding Lizards.

There are a number of riding reptiles we could adapt. For example, we could downsize the Giant Strider from Monsters of Faerun and remove its fire abilities.

EDIT: Upon reflection, it would make more sense to repurpose a herbivorous Dinosaur. Maybe shrink an Iguanodon or Trachodon to Small and give it Int 2?
