Soldier runs after Kama'zer and tells Ts'iri "Lets help Kama'zer, Ts'iri!" and then proceeds to the doorframe where Kama'zer is and he supports the other side of it and sustain and uphold it relieving some pressure off Kama'zer while he hopes Ts'iri can get the rest of the gith people out of the basement while the building still stands.

"Everyone, quickly now! To the dig site! Work together, as quickly as possible, we'll beat this fire yet! Bring your buckets!" Solon leads the way towards the dig site, looking for the mounds of fresh earth to be used in fighting the fire as well as tools to move it.

Hearing the shouts from the crowd and Solon, Galinndan lowers his wand slowly and with it the ghost-like hand holding the piece of scrap metal. He sees the crowd rushing towards the dig site and quickly follows suit.

Whatever he can come up with... Dungeoneering might work well, or some sort of Athletics/Acrobatics to physically pull people out, or Diplomacy/Intimidate to persuade them to follow him, or even Streetwise or History to find if he knows another (safer) exit from the building...

Even though the crowd seems to be warming to him, the fallen brother keeps his head down and focuses on the bucket brigade. A young girl cautiously hands him a bucket with fear and bravery playing across her face in equal measure. She stumbles, however, and the bucket spills. Goeth says nothing, but when reaching down for the wooden tool he happens to catch an elf and dwarf moving valuable posessions out of a house.

Snapping to attention and drawing up to his full hight Goeth taps his brother on the shoulder and points to the duo. He hands the bucket off to the girl and starts briskly walking over to the scene while drawing his rune-etched rod.

"What do you think you're doing?!" he growls at the dwarf. "There are more important things at risk here."

Seeing the same looters the moment Goeth points them out, Solon hands his bucket to the next man in line with a word of encouragement to keep working to stop the fire. He follows behind his brother, his face stern and disapproving. Standing behind his brother's shoulder he glowers down at the dwarf, trying to convey his anger at the looter.

Ts'iri heads over to the building with the Gith. "Give me a second guys." She thinks for a moment and remembers that basements in this section of town used to have smugglers tunnels connecting them even though most people have forgotten them. Ts'iri moves to the back of the basement and looks over the wall. It doesn't take her long to find an old smugglers symbol etched into one of the bricks. Pushing it, the wall opens up, forming a doorway. "Quickly, through here and to the left!" She waves the people into the tunnel.

Noticing that the Goeth and the others are dealing with the looters, Galinndan focuses on helping with the blaze. Again he grabs his wand and begins waving it above his head and summons the giant ghostlike hand. The hand begins to scoop buckets of the fresh earth, raise them into the air above the flames, then deposits the load on the fire. With each dumped bucket a dull thud is heard and the mound of dirt lands on the flames.

Solitaire:

Handhold to handhold you throw yourself up the side of the building. You end up beneath the overhanging window balcony, scrabbling to get just a foot higher... Arms reach down to grab you and pull you in, just as the entire weakened balcony gives way and tumbles to the street! Unless you can pull off an amazingly acrobatic move, everyone's going to fall to the cobbles below!

[sblock=OOC]
Our first failure! Remember that you can use an action point to reroll (in which case you'll be able to pull off a success despite the balcony collapsing around you), and that anyone who succeeds using a Daily power can remove this failure later.

Soldier:

Soldier wedges himself into the doorway beside Kama'zer. There's now no chance at all of the doorway collapsing, although it's hard to actually squeeze through it...

[sblock=OOC]
Since you're doing the same thing as Kama'zer, that would be Aid Another, giving him a total of 30. Not very helpful. I'll call that a +2 to the next person who needs to go in or out of that doorway, so it's not a total waste.

Sorry, but you need to be a bit more creative in your actions to count as a success in the challenge... I want to be sure people aren't rolling the same thing over and over.

Ts'iri:

The basement is dark and shadowy, with thick black smoke hovering near the ceiling. The front rooms are empty, but to reach the back you need to push your way through mounds of rubble and fallen brick. At first you think you're wasting your time, that the back is also deserted, but then you hear ragged breathing and sobbing. A cluster of figures is pressed flat to the floor below the haze. A gaunt figure in rags is huddled near the wall, covering his face with a rag to avoid breathing in the choking smoke.

As the old secret door rumbles open most of the group rushes out. The figure stands and staggers towards it, and you finally get a good look at his face - it's not one of your people at all. It's a githzerai.

"A trap!" it hisses. "You won't disappear me into your pit so easily, betrayer!" Then it launches itself at you, scrabbling for your throat, desperation giving its gaunt frame surprising strength.

[sblock=OOC]
You got a success, but the githzerai has you grabbed. Unless you can break out (either by rolling a Strength attack vs. Reflex to break the grab, or some other strategy) you'll lose a Healing Surge from smoke inhalation.

Solon and Goeth:

As Goeth glares at him, the dwarf turns on his heel and flees, arms still full of his ill-gotten goods. His partner swings down from the window and lands lightly behind you. "You're right," he says. "You have more important things to worry about than stopping us!" Then he speeds off into the night in the opposite direction, pouches jingling.

Parasites! They think they can get away with this, while decent people have their hands full with the blaze - it's unjust!

[sblock=OOC]
Well, they're looters, but they still could have put themselves in danger hanging around the fire - and if anyone else had seen them it might have caused an ugly scene. So getting them out of the danger zone counts as a success.

But now you have a choice to make - both of you have "a passion for justice" in your character backgrounds. You can probably run these two down, but that means turning your attention away from the fire. Do you want to go after the thieves? If either of you do, that will add another failure as you let the fire grow... but you'll get an XP reward for roleplaying your character.

You're at 2/3 of the way through the challenge, with only 1 failure... and remember, you can get rid of a failure by succeeding with a Daily power. There are lots of other people who'll have a chance to get rid of a failure if you incur it here. (Don't consider this a temptation - think of it as a chance to strike a blow for justice!)

Gallindan:

That mage hand sure comes in handy! As you smother larger and larger areas of the fire, you have a chance to look around the dig site. You notice tiny footprints crossing back and forth, accompanied by strange meandering tracks. Something odd has been nosing around here.

[sblock=OOC]
Success with the mage hand. Also, please give me a Nature roll that won't affect the challenge to see if you can recognize the tracks.

Challenge 1: 9 of 12 successes / 1 of 3 failures
Challenge 2: 9 of 10 successes / 0 of 3 failures

Solon, Goeth and Galinndan are two blocks from the Hanged Man, at the edge of the area that's still burning, and can't see what's going on in the main square.

Ts'iri is in the basement of a collapsing building, and can't see or be seen by anyone else.

Everybody else is in the main square, and can't see what's going on in the burning alleys. Kama'zer and Solitaire are holding up the doorframe of the collapsing building - everybody's gotten out now except for Ts'iri and the githzerai. As far as you know, she planned to come back out this way.

After the Level 2 challenge is finished, the level 2 characters can start helping with the Level 1 challenge. (And the DC is only 12 for that, so you'll have an easier time!)
