D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

FitzTheRuke

Legend
Miss Imogen was disappointed to find that there was no room beyond the guards, just more of the winding damp tunnel. The tunnel went downwards, and Dellrack was certain (with his dwarven abilities) that they were well under the Tiryki Anchorage's cliffs. They came to a dip that was steep, and would later turn out to have been the deepest the tunnel cut.

At the bottom of the steep dip, there was a pool of water, dark and stale. It was fifteen feet across and went around a corner, so that the other side was difficult to see. To jump across, one would have to catch the wall of the tunnel on the other side, and in the very least, spring off of it to the left before falling back into the pool.

Another option would be to wade through it, but Dellrack thought it could be much deeper than it appeared.

The nameless stopped at the ledge and looked across the expanse. Experimentally, he tossed a rock into the water and then stood back from the edge. Listening.

Dellrak jerks a thumb back over his shoulder as he asks, "Did it be lookin' like those two fools had recently been swimming?"

"I do think they have a way across which doesn't involve getting wet."

Legend
Nameless threw a rock into the water, which made a splash and ripples. Just below the surface it thumped into some obstacle and then continued to fall deeper before disappearing into the depths. Nameless estimated that the water was at least five-or-six feet deep, but concealed some sort of obstacle, probably spikes.

Dellrack checked the edge of the water, and sure enough, there were impressions where a plank had been laid. It was either taken fully away, or was hiding around the corner ahead.

Well, at least nothing seems to be stirring in the water. Finding no particular use for himself in this situation, The Nameless steps back to allow others a chance to figure something out.

Rodrigo narrowed his eyes

"Good thinking... now let's see if I can illuminate our problem a little further..."

He threw his light coin in the water at the bend in the tunnel - if there were spikes in there and someone had to go swim to fetch that plank, better to be able to see said spikes!

FitzTheRuke

Legend
As the lighted coin sank to the bottom of the pool, it revealed fiendish spikes about 1 foot below the surface. It came to a rest about five feet down on a muddy floor. In the centre of the flooded pit, a pillar was only a few inches below the surface and would perfectly brace a fifteen to twenty-foot plank if it were laid across.

Now that it could be seen, the pillar could be jumped to by someone nimble, someone willing to balance on it's narrow top on one foot before continuing the leap to the other side. Additionally, it was positioned well enough to make the second jump's angle account for the bend in the tunnel.

OOC: Or in other-words, a significantly easier Athletics or Acrobatics DC for anyone who wants to attempt it.

Leaning in to see the pillar, The Nameless leapt for it, landing lightly on one foot before turning his body slightly and finishing the hurdle with a graceful flourish. He may not be good with feats of strength, but he was graceful as the crane in this instance.

OOC: Acrobatics:: 1D20+5 = [15]+5 = 20

No good at Athletics, but this is Acrobatics. LOL!

Miss Imogen watches as Nameless makes his leap with grace. It's a start, she thinks.
"Well done."

In the gloomy half light, her eyes light on the small hammer affixed to the outside of Dellrak's pack, with pitons presumably inside. These could, she assumes, have made this whole task so much easier.

She shakes her head, judging his thriftiness, and waits for Nameless to continue to the far side.

FitzTheRuke

Legend
OOC: Easier, maybe - though hopping across is pretty easy - but hammering pitons would be louder.

To his relief, Nameless discovers a board leaning against the wall of the tunnel on the other side. He slides it across and it is easy enough for everyone to balance across. The water slooshes out the sides making little ripples under each person's weight. Bigger ones under Dellrack.

(No check if you're not trying to rush it).
