OOC: I assume once everyone fell in line, Karok would task one with scouting or leading. The orc wants to be in charge, but he also doesn't want to look stupid. That could ruin his image. He's smart enough to know that would be bad.

Drutha shook her head. She couldn’t believe she was following an orc. Well, she wouldn’t let it go to his head, not if she had to put him in his place, which she figured eventually she might.

Drutha fell into line near the back, with the little goblin taking up the rear. “Keep good watch,” the hobgoblin warned the goblin. They needed to be kept in line with a little fear, she knew.

OK, so you carry on through the woods, with Ripnek scouting ahead and Nert watching the rear and ensuring your trail isn't too obvious. There are clouds off and on overhead, and about 3/4 of a moon for Moon Moon to periodically converse with. He doesn't get all that many chances -- the tree cover is generally heavy, so he has to stumble on a moment with neither clouds nor trees in the way -- but there are some.

The air gets colder as the night gets on.

[sblock="Drutha & Nert"]There's not much wind, but what there is smells like rain; if the clouds thicken, the rain probably won't be far behind.[/sblock]

[sblock="Ripnek"]After about two hours, you smell goblins. Not long after, you see the signs marking a camp nearby. You have the choice whether to guide the group toward it or around it.[/sblock]

Ripnek sniffs the air, seemingly unsure of the best course. After a few seconds, he motions to the others they will move around a place without giving any more details.

When the trees allowed, Drutha stared up at the clouds that thickened in the night sky above. The moon was still occasionally visible, but she wasn’t sure how long that would last. It was getting colder, as well.

“It’s going to rain soon,” the hobgoblin mentioned to the others when they paused to let Ripnak sniff the air and find the trail again. He led them off of the direction they had been traveling. “You getting us lost, bugbear?”

Ripnek snorts. "Never."

The bugbear turns to Drutha and continues, "Goblin camp up ahead. Might cause delay. Ripnek takes us around it to move faster." His tone is a mixture between asking for permission and daring the hobgoblin to challenge his decision.

[sblock="Nert"]From the rear, Nert notices the markings indicating the goblin camp nearby just about the time Ripnek alters course to lead the group around it. For what it's worth, it is not Nert's tribe. Probably if you paused to examine the trees around, you could find a hunter watching you, but of course not about to interfere with a group of Biggers who's only passing through anyway.[/sblock]

Heavier clouds are rolling in, and as the moonlight is eliminated, you all need to rely fully on your Darkvision. The forest has the usual nocturnal wildlife up to the usual hijinks, but anything bigger than a mouse stays well clear of the bunch of you.

Ripnek, the group will travel faster if you follow game trails and other existing paths through the undergrowth, at the cost of taking a somewhat more predictable route. If you bushwhack in the dim light*, it'll be slower and you'll be visited by more sticker bushes and poison ivy and the like, but any lookouts would probably be watching the wrong spots.

OOC: * The cloudy night now counts as Darkness, or dim light to your Darkvision, meaning disadvantage to visual Perception.

OOC: The "predictable route" would be through the goblin camp? In that case Ripnek leads the gang through the bushes. If the normal path also stays clear of the camp, he'll pick that one instead.

Edit: Sorry, misunderstood. Ripnek takes the quickest path via the game trails.

Moon Moon spaces out periodically while exploring. He's not sure what to make of the paths we're taking or what's going on... spooked by just about any noise or motion he does not expect.

“Goblin camp?” Drutha repeated. She glanced back at Nert and then returned her attention to Ripnek. “Very well,” she approved.

It grew darker as the cloud cover thickened, blocking out the moonlight. The forest shifted to muted shades of grey, details less obvious, though she could still see well enough to travel.
