Faera took the rearguard. It is always good to have a withdrawal path ready in case something goes wrong. She took her faithful owl on her arms, to prevent the sound of flapping to alert to potential enemies. It weighed less than nothing, thanks to its status as a spirit.

Walking on water was something new to her. Wonderful and really frightening. For a moment an old fear gripped her and she thought she saw something moving underwater. Tentacles, eyes, teeth and fangs. A mass of chaos came to her mind, but then she calmed down.

"If we were in the Underdark, we could not see any of that," she thought nervously.

Recovering her courage, she followed her companions quietly.[/section]

OOC: Don't know why the check isn't showing up (maybe because I quoted my last post?) here we go again:

Edit: the roll code hates me, xD

[sblock=OOC for Ursus and Cade]Do me a favor and post your character sheets in this thread. Thanks![/sblock]

As you step out onto the water, the hair on the back of your neck raises slightly. You know that you aren’t alone in the cave. The water is murky and constantly moving though. It’s hard to see whether something is alive or just a swirl of dirt.

[sblock=Monster Stealth Checks] Stealth Check for monsters with advantage: 2D20.HIGH(1)+3 = [8, 6]+3 = 11 I had such high hopes for you too, monsters.[/sblock]

Forewarned of the danger and on the alert, each of you sense the subtle shift in water as a creature rises towards you.

Roll Initiative.

[sblock=Combat Details]As the round begins, notice that the creatures are still underwater. If you attempt to strike at a creature while it’s still underwater your attack will have disadvantage. If you ready an action, go ahead and include the needed rolls for if it happens.

Monster Initiative: 1D20+1 = [16]+1 = 17

If you roll a higher initiative, go ahead and narrate your turn.

[sblock=physical description]Feel free to use this as you engage the creatures: With gangly long legs, this 6-foot-long draconic quadruped has fine black-green scales covering its hide. Its dappled wings are folded alongside its haunches, and a sail-like crest originates on its head, running down its neck, and along its sinewy tail. Its curved jaw is lined with razor-sharp teeth, as it greedily snaps in anticipation of a meal.”[/sblock]

For the creatures defenses, I would ask you to only look at which one applies to your attack after you make the rolls.

Feeling the disturbance under his feet, Ursus threw a panicked look to Lakeover. If the spell failed there was no way he would remove his armour in time. All he could hope was that it wasn’t so deep as to negate the abilities of his magical ring.

Silently through the use of the mind spell. “The spell isn't failing, is it?”

Sensing the danger ahead, Faera readies herself to fight. She heard Ursus questions, but was unable to answer. That sort of magic never was her forte.[/section]

Sensing a creature or creatures stirring under the surface of the water, Cade attempts to surmise their location and position himself accordingly, then pulls his blade, readying himself for the creatures' emergence.

[section]Pell blanched at the creature's razor-sharp teeth. A sincere desire not to be eaten spurred the young half-orc to dubious action. He skulked to the side of the closest beast--out of range of the perilous teeth--and sliced at it with Swish and Flick, but missed. He was quick to duck out of the way, realizing all too soon the folly of his foray. Bollocks! At best, I can distract it while you lot take a turn! Pell tried very hard not to close his eyes. He'd never liked terror, and the urge to flee was strong.[/section]

OOC: Pell initiative 19. Pell has passive Perception 17. Before the creature rose fully from the water, did Pell note anything about the monster or the environment that would be useful to him or to the others during this fight? Also, how high overhead is the ceiling, and how far away is the closest wall (thinking about casting spider climb but won't if the ceiling or closest wall would put Pell out of useful range).
